Should I ignore my ex mother-in-law's behaviour at our daughter's wedding?

My ex and I divorced 10 years ago after he got another woman pregnant! Needless to say, we do not get on, however for our daughter's wedding, we were well behaved and stayed out of each others way.
Having said that, the ex MIL was completely bizarre on the day. She made a point of not saying anything nice about how I looked, after I commented her on her outfit (fair enough....). She also nagged me over and over again about what time the cake was going to be cut as she had to leave early (!!?!?!). We now notice in all the photos that she had her back turned to the bride and groom whilst everyone else is smiling and throwing confetti. She didn't raise her glass after my speech either.
To be transparent, my exes wife (who he got pregnant) has fallen out with his side of the family and no longer sees them. She was not invited to the wedding as she has no relationship with my kids.
I'm the type of person who wants explanations and would query why someone would act like that, but do I just let this irritation go and remember the day for how it was....happy and and glorious?

Yes let it go

cocoonscriticupgrading · 11/08/2026 09:37

I would not give it any head space.

NeatJoker · 11/08/2026 09:38

You won’t get a reasonable explanation for unreasonable behaviour from an unreasonable person. I would be puzzling over this too but I wouldn’t give her the satisfaction of attention. Let it go - hard I know! AI can edit her out the photos!

Naurrr · 11/08/2026 09:38

You don't need to think about the woman or ever see her again, and definitely don't need to be complimenting her. She's no one.

This with bells on. Your ex-MIL sounds a bit of an arsehole but, as long as she only spoilt the day for herself, I would forget about it.

Honestly just leave it. She sounds cantankerous and obviously doesn't like you, the photo could have been anything she might have just turned at the wrong time of the photo or was just confused. Again the speech it doesn't matter if she applaud or toasted you,

Bettyfromlondon · 11/08/2026 09:41

I think you should just dance a jig that this bonkers woman is not part of your life any more!

@ThatJoyousTaupeExpert
You again! Don’t you have anything better to do?

whippersnapper55 · 11/08/2026 10:06

Just let it go! So she didn't comment on your outfit, so what? The other stuff is a minor irritation at best. Surely you're too busy enjoying your daughter's wedding to care?

Lomonald · 11/08/2026 10:15

My parents left Dds wedding after the cake cutting, granted they didn't harp on about it, but it had been a long day and they wanted home, maybe your Dds gran was tired.

HoppityBun · 11/08/2026 10:18

No. Don’t let it go. Call her out, point out what she’s done, have an almighty row.

AnnesPuffedSleeves · 11/08/2026 10:37

Think about the questions you’d ask her:
‘Ex-MIL, why didn’t you compliment me on my dress?

‘Ex-MIL, why did you keep asking about cake?

’Ex-MIL, why are you not looking the right way in photos?’

It sounds ridiculous. Move on.

pouletvous · 11/08/2026 11:41

MYOB

MageKing · 11/08/2026 11:55

Yes, just be happy this woman is no longer part of your life and move on.

REP22 · 11/08/2026 12:02

I suspect she did it deliberately, knowing you would notice and want to challenge her about it. She wants the fight. Don't give her that satisfaction.

I'd use AI to cut her out of any photos I kept to look at; even if that gives a couple of others in the pictures an extra thumb. And try to make sure she got to see a few of the pics with her edited out.

Linetree · 11/08/2026 12:05

I mean you could argue she was doing what you did with DH and staying out of your way. There's nothing so awful there that you'd look anything other than petty if you tried to raise it.
