My marriage is in a mess and I am debating on cancelling our eurocamp trip, we are supposed to be going on the 22nd August.
Currently we are not speaking and don't like to be in the same room as each other. I just suggested cancelling to him and was met with well thats not fair on the children. I agree they will be disappointed but how will anyone enjoy it with this atmosphere?! We cannot see each others point of view. He won't try and resolve anything so what would you do? Cancel the trip?

Which one are you going to? We do eirocamp holidays and I've gone on my own in the past. I would go alone if that's an option you will have a better time.

You take them by yourself but stagger the journey there. Take lots of breaks to stretch legs, have a drink, etc. Tell him to use the time you’re away to move out.

No, you don't take the children on holiday - and abroad! - alone unless you have his full approval.

Go by yourself, even if you have to organize a airbnb for half way through the journey, make it work.

Sounds like he would like the break and play games all day anyway

The weather is so fab! Can you cancel and go
to a uk holiday park?

Suggest he stays home and plays with his toys.

AmandaHoldensLips · 10/08/2026 20:26

Cancel. You already know it's going to be hell. Everything will fall to you and you'll be wishing you were at home where at least you're not all forced to be together and play happy families.

Offer for him to take them and remind him that he'll be having them on his own 50-50 shortly so he might as well get used to it now.

Sounds like you can't be civil and the kids will sense the horrible atmosphere. Take the kids somewhere easier yourself. Dump him too he sounds pathetic.

Bringemout · 10/08/2026 20:47

I think your children would be disappointed. I wouldn’t cancel but I would suck it up and just get the kids really busy.

At no point have I suggested she does this without telling him.

I think if you go, you have to lower your expectations of him, so there are no arguments, that way you know what is expected of you, and there is less drama and conflict… and then leave him when you get home.

My ex was an arse on holiday at times, there is one holiday where we shouldn’t have bothered, it’s doesn’t have nice memories. One sticks out, we were at the ferry port, and he got out to get some food. He was ages and ages, didn’t take his phone ( on purpose) and it was our turn to get on the boat. I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t see him, but he could see me, and literally waited until the last second to get back in the car. Apparently I was being dramatic, and ruining it for everyone by being stressed.
