Are my expectations unrealistic after six months?

I've been in a relationship for the last 6 months which came about through OLD. Nice guy, we managed to see each other once or twice a week depending on where his and my dcs are.
There's nothing obviously wrong as such but as time has gone on I can't see much of a future together and I don't feel massively supported by him in my day to day life.
For example it's been a really rough week for me. I've had to travel for the week to help out my DD (22) due to her ill health. I tried to arrange to see bf before I left but he was non committal and it turns out he spent the evenings alone watching TV in bed. This upset me because I felt like he hadn't made any effort to see me or even just give me a hug before I left.
He's been chatty enough while I've been away via text but without acknowledging that I'm really upset about my daughter's situation.

There have been similar things earlier in the relationship but basically he comes across as lazy and puts as little effort in as possible. So we end up watching a film and I'll cook most of the time we see each other.

The upshot it I don't feel special at all or supported. I suggested booking tickets for a show which I knew he liked but again he was non committal and I didn't push it. I'm just bored of this bare minimum relationship. I want to have plans and do stuff and feel like someone has got my back. I feel bad saying this though, he's a nice guy and we have a nice time whenever we are together.

I don't know if my expectations are realistic at this stage?

I bet he always feels like a shag though?

The woman is the driving force in a lot of relationships. He’s happy on cruise control.

They usually pull out all the stops at first though, just to hook you in. If it’s not good in the first 6 months, it’s never going to be.

Exactly, how they start off isn’t their base line - that’s them on their best behaviour. I made the mistake of a) not knowing that and taking him at face value and b) once I saw the shift, deludedly thinking he could ‘go back’ to that level of effort and just needing to give him more time, more chances etc etc because of the whole sunk effort thing. Now I realise that the things I chose to overlook weren't just mistakes or him not knowing me enough etc - it was him operating at his normal capacity, which was not enough to maintain a mature relationship. OP sounds like your guy hasn’t got much in the tank to start with, if this is what he’s showing you so early on, imagine how shit it will feel a few months more down the line.

He sounds very lazy and uninvested in your relationship. You should not be inviting him over for a meal and sex when he dies take you out or cook for you. I'd bin him off and look for a more supportive partner.

He sounds dull and limp.

Don’t you ever go out on dates? Even just to the pub for a couple of hours? You sound like a couple who have been married for years and stuck in a rut . A PP had it right when she said that just 6 months is the honeymoon period and you should be going out as a couple , having a laugh with friends not staring at the tv when you’re together . Throw this one back .

Couple of dates at the start but nothing really. Everytime is food I have cooked and sitting on my sofa watching a film.
No wonder I am so bored with it! He's a nice guy but this has no future does it?

Oh god, just dump him.

You’re not asking for too much at all! Things should not feel difficult or boring after 6 months imo. It sounds like you’ve got an occasional extra mouth to feed and that’s about it 🤷🏻‍♀️. I think Throw this one back.
