Should women feel more confident about making the first move?

Many people complain about blokes and indeed many are completely useless.
Equality legislation is fifty years old this year. Would it be better if females were more confident about making the first move in relationships? What do people think?

I bet this OP is a lazy journo

Women are confident about making the first move. However, many men are prone to interpret that action as a 'Coo-ee, over here! I'm ready to drop my knickers for you at the earliest opportunity!' and many women have long since realised that they would rather be respected than be seen as an easy lay.

I'm not sure about that, but I still think they like the thrill of the chase, rightly or wrongly. Also, I still think if a man likes you enough, he'll get himself together and ask you out.

Any man who doesn't respect a woman or considers her 'easy' because she likes sex as much as they do is a misogynist who isn't worth a moment of their time anyway.

Of course, women should feel as confident and capable as men in making the first move/doing the asking. There's no part of that that requires or should even overtly involve a penis. There are upsides and downsides to being the one who initiates, though.

For me personally - leaving aside totally hopeless cases like celebrity crushes, gay men, and married Mormons - I've yet to meet anyone I "liked" enough to make the first move before he made it. I don't think I'm particularly slow, either; I think SOME (perhaps many) men are seriously rushing things and/or overconfident. I don't think it would be beneficial for an individual woman to try to match or exceed that pace except on a case by cases basis when she wanted to. Individual men should similarly feel free to slow it down if they prefer, and many already do - my brother, for example, would never have had a date in 45 years if women hadn't asked him out - and in many cases spelled out the invitation so there was no confusion. 🤓

Same here. On the odd occasion I took the initiative, it led to a date or two, but no more, and the dynamic always felt off.

Then you did better than most men tend to when asking people out. I mentioned yesterday on another thread that when I was single, about 10% of attempts to ask a woman out led to a date.

I reckon men are more likely than women to say yes to an initial date, but the cost of that is that there's less chance of there being chemistry, so it's more likely to fizzle after a date of two.

Women SHOULD, but I’ve never had success the few times I’ve made the first move. It’s always turned out the guy wasn’t that interested, even if on initial meeting they appeared to be.

I expect that many men have exactly the same experience.

I agree with this

Quite a few responses so far but OP hasn't come back. Male journalist gathering info for the Daily Mail or Telegraph maybe.
