Meeting new partners

My ex husband and I broke up early last year. By autumn and around the time the divorce was finalised, we both started new relationships. Both those relationships are going strong and our children like both my new partner and ex husband's new partner. Yet I still haven't met her. I also haven't met my partner's ex wife, who he has 2 children with. At almost a year into both relationships, should I ask to meet either of them? We've all kind of avoided each other for no particular reason other than not wanting it to be awkward, but in any case, who's responsibility is it to initate a meeting? Or didn't it just happen with you accidentally?

Why would you meet the new girlfriend, or your boyfriends ex wife? Seems like it would be an awkward encounter, and no reason to have a meetup.

Just because children are involved. We all have 50/50 shared care. So ExH's partner spends a lot of time with my children and I spend a lot of time with my new partner's children from his previous marriage. I wasn't sure if it was the respectful thing to do seen as it's been a year almost. I know some people even insist on meeting the new partner before introducing the children to them, which we obviously never did.

FML, if my xh had wanted to meet my (imaginary) new partner he'd have got short shrift. And I have zero interest in meeting the woman he lives with. She's nice to DD so that's all that matters but I certainly don't want to make polite conversation with her.

I've never seen the need to meet my partners' exes or my ex's partner really.

Seems like I’m in a minority but I’d definitely want to meet my ex husband’s new partner if I was sending my kid(s) over there. Isn’t that normal? And if he’s been with her for awhile and introduced her to your kid(s) and everything is amicable then I think it makes sense. I’d probably invite them around for dinner.

Honestly, I think it depends on the relationship between each pair of exes. I see little point in forcing a meeting if you are on minimally civil terms with your ex and just about get through handovers with gritted teeth etc.

My ex husband and I are on good terms and as well as sharing kids, we share a number of friends so continue to socialise on occasion.

He met my BF about 9 months into my relationship when he brought the kids to see me on the morning of my birthday a few years back.

My BF and I have since attended events with friends and my ex being there, as well as at both mine and ex's homes.

I haven't met my BFs ex wife, but met his kids about 18 months into our relationship. My BF and his ex had a tricky break up, so they aren't on massively friendly terms and whilst id be happy to meet her if it benefited the kids, she has expressed, via vile messges that she definitely does not want to meet me! So that would be awful for everyone!

I haven't met my ex's partner of over a year, I probably will meet her if she attends one of DDs school things but I don't think I need to arrange a meeting. I go by what DD10 says about her. My ex net my partner in passing when dropping DD of but again wouldn't have arranged an actual meeting.
