Concerned about Ex’s extreme religious beliefs

Hiya, seeking advice about a concerning situation involving my ex. (2 DC) I’ve posted about him before getting heavily into Catholicism very quickly after we separated. Got oldest confirmed, matching religious t-shirts with DC, created weird AI images of himself with a halo and gods light shining on him etc. He also sends me heavily preachy TikTok videos.

This week he’s been texting some concerning stuff involving him having two demons living inside him for years which he has recently got rid of - he also mentioned how the Virgin Mary has visited him 4 times this week and how our oldest has been seeing and hearing things.

He also mentioned how he wants to get our youngest (ASD) confirmed but it wouldn’t be possible, he described him as an “angel with a broken wing” WTF 😳

So, I’m very concerned about the things he’s saying. What would you do? He’s always had an addictive personality and becomes hyper fixated on certain things then moves on but it’s worrying the talk of demons living inside him 😱

You could try contacting the local hospital (they’re not a hospital) though mine was Jeanette Wallace House and see if they can help you get signpost you where to go. They should be able to help or advise you. Patients go there for treatment, medication reviews, social worker appointments and such like. Far less intimidating than a psychiatric hospital. My therapist, doctor and social worker and employment service worker are all based there.

Sounds like quite standard catholic beliefs to me. Apart from the comment about your youngest

Cookiebaker67 · 07/07/2026 23:40

Based only on what you’ve shared, I’d say the situation deserves concern—not because he’s Catholic, but because the content and intensity of what he’s is describing could reflect a significant change in his mental state. The children’s wellbeing should be the priority, and documenting what’s happening while encouraging an assessment is a sensible approach.

There is this too. My best friend used to work for a Catholic diocese in London and says she heard parishioners undergoing exorcisms in their offices. Obviously mentally ill. Wrong.

This sounds exactly like an episode of psychosis a friend had. Culminating in a ‘battle between good and evil’ and she had to do certain things to ‘drive away’ the demons and ‘fix’ things. I’m not going to say more as I’m not trying to scare you, but do not leave your kids alone with him. I personally would keep them well away until he is recovered because all this will be having an effect. It’s frightening and confusing if nothing else.

So both his parents are bipolar and when we were married a nurse wanted him to get assessed for it but he had another health issue and didn’t end up getting assessed. I do think he’s bi polar.

That doesn’t explain the psychosis, with demons and visitations?

Totally agree. I'd be extremely concerned about the kids too, especially because you've mentioned he was abusive to you OP. Might be worthwhile getting in touch with a solicitor to ask advice on how to proceed as well. This could escalate faster than anyone would expect, and the last thing you want is for that to happen when the kids are with him. Don't worry about overreacting, in this case you need to be on the ball for everyone's sake. Best of luck.

I would inform social services of your concerns.

OtterandaRock · 08/07/2026 13:14

Please inform Social Services as a matter of urgency @JammyDodgerandTea

Children are at risk of normal human harm, if their father is hearing voices and talking about demons.

I am very active RC, and no mainstream modern church would see this as anything but a safeguarding issue and mental health crisis.

It is vanishingly rare and only through the Bishop and multiple layers of scrutiny that anyone looks into 'spirits'.

People do not need magical-style protection. Just receiving the sacraments and living a very ordinary good life is Christian and safe. Nothing special is needed. That is kind of the point. The other stuff is superstitious/pagan...or delusional.

This is really quite a dangerous situation; please act fast.

SlightlyTerrifiedButPolite · 09/07/2026 15:19

@JammyDodgerandTeaI agree completely with @OtterandaRock. I don’t mean to alarm you but there is a Netflix documentary called Doomsday Mom where a mother with her new partner both believed two of her children were possessed by demons. That was a terrible tragedy but you just don’t know what direction this may turn with your ex, especially given the mental health history in his family

One is with me and the oldest is (alienated) with his Dad. He’s beginning to sound like one of those cult leaders you see on Netflix! It’s concerning what the oldest is being exposed to now. It did worry me him swung how DS was now hearing and seeing stuff too 😳

Contact SS and tell them your son is in danger because his dad is having a mh episode.

I wish OP would give an update. This man is seriously mentally ill and needs medication urgently.

People in a manic stage commonly present as thought disordered, eg believing they have super powers etc.
