We were at a social party thing last night with a bunch of local people, incl. a couple we first met about 8 years ago when our first kids were born. They're not 'close' friends any more, but we used to socialise with them, and we still chat when we meet up etc.
Basically I used to find the DH obnoxious - always embarrassingly drunk and talking about his money/ cars etc.
Anyway, he was the same again last night - had had a skinful, and he was telling my DH (I was also there, but he was ignoring me) that his colleagues and rich clients are always telling him it's time to 'move onto Wife No.2', as they are all on second and third marriages with younger wives. He was joking about it as if it was a possibility.

DH told me later that this bloke had also said to him later "don't tell XX (his wife) but I've just ordered a new car today - (claims it is £50K +) I can't afford it, so I'm going to tell her it's a company car".

I can't help feeling he is such an idiot, and thinking it is all going to go pear-shaped for them. He works in property, and already his business is suffering.
I genuinely believe his wife doesn't have a clue - either that, or she is in spectacular denial.

But you can't say anything can you?

Ugh, grim. Agree though that you can't really say anything. My best friend and I have traditionally always disliked each other's boyfriends (until the most recent pair) and after every break-up would have the whole "why didn't you tell me he was such an arse?" conversation, swiftly followed by the acknowledgement that neither of us would have wanted or been able to hear it at the time.

This guy might just be all mouth and no trousers, though. You never really know what's going on with other people's relationships - mouthing off like a wanker and making up fantasies might be his only outlet, and she might be in control of all the life stuff day to day.

I've been that wife. Poor lady. If he's anything like my xh, he'll chew her up and spit her out according to his own agenda. And I bet she loves him to bits, too.
