Cynical husband

We’ve been married nearly 2yrs and already I’ve had enough.

DH is in his mid 50’s and is getting more grumpy and cynical as the days go on. He just thinks everyone and the world are against him. He thinks the worst in everyone, even me at times. He never really has anything nice to say about my DC, often putting them down, but then he’s never been one for compliments.

Im just losing the will to be with him anymore as he can be so draining at times, but the thought of a second divorce really isn’t a good example for my DC or something I want them to go through again.

But staying with a man who belittles your children is a great example is it?

How old are they? Do they live with you/this Wankbadger?

Just call it a day and be happy without him.

Yes. Think of it as your marriage subjecting them to a daily dose of Dennis the Downer, and that ending this will make everyone’s lives better.

Better to be on your own with your kids than to remain so badly accompanied. You are also not some rehab centre for such a badly raised man. A man who also belittles your kids.

Put yourself and them first now, not him. Don’t let a second divorce keep you with him.

He belittles them to me, never in front of them.

They are 15 and 17 and yes live with us.

Can't imagine your kids will miss him very much, given how you have described him. Do not fall for the sunk cost fallacy - you have made a mistake, accept it, move on and enjoy the rest of your life. Don't get married again.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 08/05/2026 09:55

How long will it be before he also starts to belittle you if he has not done so already. It’s clear he does
not like your kids and he is not going to change. This is who he really is.

I would have never have married the man if he was like this before 🙄

Well you have to deal with the man in front of you now. And he sounds awful.

Life is too short to put up with this shit. Get rid of him, don’t put it off.

This is the truth. Another divorce is infinitely better than subjecting your children and yourself to such a dreary and unpleasant existence. Your children are in their teens and will be spreading their wings soon, and you won’t see them for dust if their mum’s husband is a dick to them.

Your children will have noticed the change and are old enough to understand that someone like that is best avoided. This divorce won’t mean the same to them as when you and their father divorced. They might actually be thrilled to see the back of him
