Is my sister's regular customer behaving oddly or just lonely?

Not sure what to make of this.

My sister is a hairdresser & has a male customer (60) who keeps popping in to chat to her. She's been cutting his hair for years but he's recently started growing it long & is slightly obsessed with it, so keeps popping in to ask her advice.

Last week she was cutting someone's hair & this male came to the shop to chat with her (again, about his hair 🙄) but instead of just walking in & chatting, he crouched down outside the door, peering in through the glass panels (door is top half glass, bottom half solid). Then he walked in, chatted to her about his hair (again! 😆) and then left.

I think he's a weirdo but not sure if that's just me!

The audacity. Your 24 year old Sister does not want to f*ck this man but he clearly thinks he has a shot just because she was nice to him as part of her job.

Can she refuse to attend him now? Pass him as a client to someone else?

He's going to escalate. In his mind, he is owed her attention.

Yeah @FartSock5000 I agree, it's just the sense of entitlement. 🙄

I've told my sister to tell the manager to have a word with him next time he comes in. Problem is, the manager isn't always there & sister is the only hair stylist.

Wonder what his wife would think of his behaviour? 🤔

60 year old men can be very strong & fit; I see them at my gym, have them as colleagues & as patients. So please don’t underestimate the potential danger of this individual.

Some older men can also feel quite over confident in their level of attractiveness to women- even very young women.

If I was OPs sister i would definitely tell the salon manager & ask them to have a word, also I would be very cold towards this man, blunt & firm, not friendly or smiling.

Thepossibility · 20/04/2026 20:58

Ugh I had one of these when I worked in the industry. He ended up grabbing me and trying to kiss me. Amongst other incidents such as massive erections while I was working on them.
I wish my manager would've had my back but she was just happy for the business I was bringing in.

danid26 · 20/04/2026 21:56

I fully think, just your gut instincts aways. Your alarm bells are ringing for a reason. ❤️

Chickadee001 · 21/04/2026 05:57

He's possibly lonely and or starting with some form of dementia? Does she know if he has family she could ask?

Do you know his wife? If so, a quiet word with her that perhaps he might have memory problems or something because he keeps coming into the salon when he doesn’t have an appointment and interrupting your sister’s work might solve the issue…..

WhatAGreatDay · 21/04/2026 06:44

He's 60 not 80. It's more likely sleaziness than dementia.

I do know his wife. Not sure I want to broach it with her though, although I could approach it from the memory problems angle I suppose (I don't really think it is dementia but I'm no expert 🫤).

That’s ok, she’ll know it’s not dementia as soon as you tell her your sister is 24!

He's married.

He's just being a creep.

Suddenly obsessed with growing his hair long and creeping on young women? Screams AGP weirdo to me but then again maybe I’ve been spending too much time on the feminism boards and am seeing them everywhere. Either way he’s making her (understandably) uncomfortable at work and it’s time for the manager to have a word.

He’s 60- not 80

Also, it’s very telling that these ‘lonely’ men always want to chat to and strike up ‘friendships’ with 24 year old women. Not men. Or people ther own age.

creepy old git. Just getting more deluded with age

EnjoythemoneyJane · Today 09:21

To all the posters wondering about dementia and loneliness, he’s a married 60 yr old, not a doddery old widower! Men this age, IME, tend not to lack confidence in themselves. In fact, many overestimate their appeal to a delusional degree, especially when it comes to very young women who show them even a passing, socially polite amount of attention. And they can be just as handsy, inappropriate and, in some cases, dangerous as they were at 30.

He’s pestering her, OP, and yes it’s weird. The peeping is probably to check your sister is there, or maybe whether she’s alone. It’s not ok and you need to encourage her to say something or get her manager to shut it down. He’s just a creepy old fucker and she doesn’t owe him time, smiles or politeness.

Oh God, I didn’t even think of that.

Yes, there's always people reaching for excuses for creepy blokes.

Your sister could have a card ready advertising an experienced male hairdresser. (Your sister would know other hairdressers and could word them up to expect MC60.)

She could then advise Male Customer 60 that, since he is having a lot of trouble with his new style, she thinks it best that he attends the male hair expert XX in future, and that she has discussed his hair in advance, ready for him to swap hairdressers. Send him with written history and letter of introduction!

Make it official that MC60 needs to find another hairdresser in a very polite and professional way.

Creepy as fuck.
He’s completely taking advantage of your sister being ‘ quite shy’.
As women we’re often conditioned to be polite over everything else and it doesn’t serve us well , it puts us in danger.

Completely agree! He sounds like a weirdo

Chamomileteaplease · Today 16:35

If I was having my hair cut I would be pretty pissed off if my hairdresser was talking to some bloke who had come in off the street.

She needs to tell him he needs to make an appt. Then make sure it is with the manager.
