Friend getting divorced. She doesn’t think I know but I do

Ok, so a friend - I see this friend occasionally, has split up from her husband and they have started discussing divorce.

a handful of people have told me about this but she , my friend , has not. Even though I have seen her / spoken to her . She could have told me.

I’m due to see said friend in a couple of weeks.

If she mentions it to me does anyone have any advice upon how I should respond ? should l let her know that I already know ?

but what if she asks , who told you ? That might be tricky to answer.

I’d just try and react as close to how you would if you didn’t already know. Or maybe even an extra bit kinder. And hope she thinks better of you/realises you’re a good friend. I’d probably then review how I see the relationship and feel like I wasn’t as close to her as I thought it was.

No, don't say you already know. If she wanted you to know already, she would have told you. She doesn't need to know she is being gossiped about.

Just say something like, “that’s a shame I hope you are ok”. Then leave the ball in her court regarding how much she wants to tell you.

Thank you.

i’ve already done a lot of thinking regarding reviewing our friendship - as in what level it is at.

Yes of course, however the people she has told have come to tell me. They’re the ones who have been gossiping

I genuinely think that she has no idea that I know. I haven’t told anyone

will wait and see what is either said or not said the next time I see her which will be in a couple of weeks.

I just don’t want her to start with something like…. Well you’re the only one who doesn’t know but … and I are seperating…

In my head it’ll be, well yes, I do know and have known for months. Lots
of people have mentioned this to me and told me not to say anything etc etc

I would take a more direct approach and mention next time you see or speak to her that people have been telling you things. I don't like fudging the truth.

Thanks. Something to think about.

But she’ll probably ask who. Then it’ll be naming these people which may cause a whole load of ‘drama’
