Upsetting interaction at the supermarket

As I was leaving Tesco this afternoon the trolley behind me very gently bumped into me. It wasn't a problem at all.
Then I heard a man say "you should look where you're going, you need to look in front of you not behind, that's the third time you've done that". He sounds really pissed off.

As I returned my trolley the woman who bumped me apologised.
I said it was fine.
She then said "well, I got a telling off.".
I asked "is he often like that?"
She said yes, and then I said "I'm so sorry, you don't need to put up with that".
Tears welled in her eyes and she mumbled a thank you and said that my kindness had made her cry. nb the chap had marched ahead so didn't hear any of this i.e I didn't risk making things worse for her.

I felt so sad for her. Obviously I have no idea what's going on, but on the face of it I saw a defeated woman walking on egg shells.

He might be a dick, but even a stopped clock is right twice a day. If it's the third time she's bumped someone in one shopping trip she absolutely does need to look where she's going.

She could bump someone, who has just has just got over an illness, be unsteady on their feet, anything to be fair. If it is happening often, then he was right to say something. She should be paying attention when pushing the trolley.

What? That justifies him speaking to her like that?

Ummm, yes? Sounds like he was factual, wasn't shouting, just pissed off.

Yep unfortunately my mum does things like that (she’s only mid 50s!) and it gets quite frustrating because although she’s not doing it maliciously she’s clearly not thinking about her surroundings.

That’s her partner talking to her though.

Fuck's sake, talk about missing the point. Well done for speaking to her @BringBackCatsEyes , hopefully that little interaction will give her some strength to think about looking into making some changes to her life Flowers

Suffering comes with people who are carefree. I choose to go through it with the end goal. Growth and experience.
