Cheeky thread: let's talk vibrators

This is a bit...well, personal, but what do you use to clean yours? I recently bought one from Anne Summers and was told that the only appropriate product in the whole world was one that they sold...at £5 for a pack of 10! Apparently it's because vibrators are absorbent so you have to be careful...what goes into them goes into you.

I bought the wretched things but now I wonder whether straightforward 'feminine' wipes from the chemist might do?

antibac hand wash soap CAREX {mine is a rabbit}

DitavonTeese · 04/06/2008 22:56

And you've not noticed any undesirable foaming?

Sorry, I've been in an immature mood all day. Anne Summers till girl reckons that if you use soap, even the mighty rabbit will absorb it and then spew it back the next time you go for a ride.

You can see it's late and I'm tired. I apologise for my humour.

poshwellies · 04/06/2008 22:58

no on my bath towel but rabbit has been washed thoughly then it goes back into it's sock where it lives

sexandthecitylover · 04/06/2008 23:04

I just rinse mine under the hot tap, bit of soap and dry it off.

So far so good!!

DitavonTeese · 04/06/2008 23:11

God, I hate shops and marketing. I think I've been taken for a ride.

i think the one i have is silicone it was very expensive

Mamazon · 04/06/2008 23:21

Warm water, no soap. but if yo must use one like FEMFRESH that is specifically designed for your vaignal area.

A lot of vibes are now latex coated so you need to be carefull notto use anything oil based anywhere near them, but its mostly because soaps will cling to teh surface and can cause a reaction inside your vagina after use.

CatharsisItIs · 05/06/2008 00:52

I use whatever soap/water to clean mine

Decided to add to my collection upon my recent break up and treated myself to a hundred quid's worth. Have to avoid latex, hence, have found that the ultra sanitary (and eco friendly) are blown (ha!) glass versions.

Ask your husband how he cleans his cock and work from there.

JoDivine · 05/06/2008 09:57

Ah, the old 'buy wipes at 50p a go trick' - before setting up our web site/party company Jo Divine we found some pages where the AS party girls discuss their tricks for getting profit from the party, and the wipes are a MASSIVE profit source.

Ours are £10 for 25 wipes or 100ml spray pjur wipes and fluid and from a top brand. As you can imagine AS buy their own brands in massive bulk, so the profit they make on that must be amazing. They can also be used as intimate wipes/cleaner too.

BUT we don't push cleaning sprays/wipes anyway. Soap is fine - just make sure you don't use something which might irritate you.

As DisplacementActivity said, the MOST important thing is the material that the vibe is made from. If it is jelly it is porous, and stores microbes/yeast cells etc. and you will never be able to make it properly clean. Jelly also contain phthalates, which were banned from kids toys years ago.

If you get thrush after using a toy, the material (or even an old thrush infection reinfecting you) may be the cause.

In my humble opinion, if it isn't made from silicone, metal or glass, don't let it near it near you.
