1930s wives' guide to the perfect husband - and not so perfect

In the 1930s Dr George Crane asked hundreds of American wives for their views on the perfect husband's attributes, and the characteristics that were not so ideal.

Bear in mind this was a time when women could be rejected for work for being female, paid less than a man, ineligible for a bank account or mortgage, etc, etc, so a wife would often necessarily be dependent.

And yes, he did do one for husbands, too.

Interesting, but 1930s America and sounds like a relatively wealthy demographic, given the references to telephones and cars!
However, I think there is a general truth that affection, consideration, kindness, good manners, partnership and respect are all good foundations for a relationship.

Writes on the tablecloth with a pencil - huge red flag 🤣

Oh yes, way back when women were paid less than men!

They get a 20 point bonus for giving the wife an orgasm. Brilliant.

Interesting. And so much of it still relevant today, nearly 100 years later.

Can't help wondering what the husbands viewed as wifely merits/demerits though!

Calls out “where is……?” without first looking for the object!!!!!
Yes, THIS! They’ve probably been doing this since caveman times

The one about not eating radishes?!

I've never thought they had any kind of strong smell or odour. It's about as potent as lettuce or celery!

Willingly makes own breakfast is a good one. It should be willingly makes all own meals and is happy to cook for wife!

But maybe in those days women would take it as an insult if their bloke wanted to cook his own food?
