How do I help my friend?

A good friend of mine has just discovered that her on/off boyfriend has had a baby with another woman. It's come as a huge shock to her, particularly because timings mean that at the time of conception, she considered that her and the bf were very much together. It's one surprise that he cheated, and another that he's now had a baby. The news is still very fresh but she seems to be spiralling and conversations are looping and very circular. She doesn't want to speak to a therapist or a professional. She's not sleeping or eating. How can I help support her through this, without saying the same thing over and over again?

Keep her away from him

Well I can't physically stop two adults from seeing each other. She say's she's had no contact from him since he told her about the baby.

I think you just need to let her ride the wave and continue to be there for her
Its understandable she is distraught
Her rumination of looping / circular thinking is her own way of trying to make sense of a non sensical situation and she will continue with this looped thinking until she processes it
I do not necessarily thinks she needs therapy or counselling as anyone in the same situation would be understandably upset and just need time

My advice would be practical - make sure she is up and showered, out a walk each day and bring her a meal or two to help her eat
