Creating a romantic atmosphere

Hi everyone,

My OH and I rarely get to spend anytime alone together as we have 2 young children, one of who is not a big one for sleep and 2 SS who we have half the week too!!
So, this evening, i am set on getting both kids to sleep early so that we can actually spend some quality time together especially as we're coming out of a rough patch too.

He is going to be cooking a meal (he is the best cook ever!) and i'm after some suggestions on how i can creat a nice atmosphere in the room??

I'm going to grab some wine, light some candles etc but what else can i do to make it look and feel special??

Thanks for reading!!

Make sure the room is tidy and that any children's bits are cleared away (a real passion killer!)Scented candles are lovely if you're in to that sort of thing. A bunch of fresh flowers from Tesco? Stargazer lilies have a strong fragrance (again, if you like that - I do but some don't!)

Choose some music - dh and I don't tend to go for the really sloppy stuff when we have a 'date night', oddly enough - last time we put Prince on and have used U2 in the past as well.

Clean bedlinen and fresh flowers in the bedroom.

Get some really quality wine, the sort you can savour rather than knock back.

Put on a really spectacular outfit and underwear.

And if you have a laptop or a computer in your living room going on youtube and watching old favourite music videos together is always fun!

Agree nice lighting. You can get some heart lights from sainsburys, red, soft, need other lighting with it, but I sometimes run them down the corner of the wall, not over the top, just a hint of special.

Lots and lots of candles.

DH and I sometimes go to 'restaurant little pavlov' which is our time when DD is asleep. And we keep it simple, candles, smellies, great food and great wine, table laid out nicely, flowers, photo of our wedding day. If I do it as a surprise for when he comes home from work, I take his coat, sit him down pour a glass of wine for him! Soft music, maybe some jazz/blues (if you are into that, can get some funky jazz). We often go to M&S as it saves time on cooking/washing up and more time for romance! (we hae a kitchen diner so have to keep it clean before we eat or ele the atmosphere is somewhat ruined!)

Oh, sexy underwear, and nice perfume. In fact if its romantic, you can even skip the dress part!!!

orangehead · 23/05/2008 12:10

Put all children items hidden, scented candles, perfume. Stocking and supenders and give him a hint you are wearing them early to tease him all the way through dinner. Sometimes when we go out with others I will put sexy underwear on before and dh sees me put it on. Then all the time we are out its like are little secret and we cant wait to get home

noddyholder · 23/05/2008 12:11

Just asked dp about this and his answer instead of setting the tone would lower it

SilverSparkle · 23/05/2008 13:04

Ha ha Noddyholder, thats such a blokey comment, but great nonetheless!!
