Hi. OH and I have been together for 10 years now. You kind of get into a rountine and stuck in your ways if you know what i mean. I met him when I was 17 and he is 9 years older than me and has always ruled me I guess but now I am starting to stand up for myself and not let it happen, I guess that comes with age too.

Anyway we have 2 DD's. Years ago he decided that my mum anoys him (she does me to sometmes!) and he wouldn't tolerate her anymore so has shut himself off from her. Wont get together for BBQ's only the odd party if im lucky. He only comes home at weekends as works abroard all week and says weekends are family time for us.

I have told him how much it hurts me but he still doesn't understand and says im being silly. I see mum once a week anyway but I feel piggy in the middle as she asks us over and I make excuses.

Anyone else have this?

What has she actually done to make him behave like this?

I believe part of being married/in a relationaship is accepting and being at least polite to the family of your partner, at least to show respect to your OH if no one else! He doesn't have to be best friends with her, but he can at least be civil.

I would be really happy to never see any of my ILs again, but you know what, that's not part of the deal. I think if you are married to someone you are obliged to hold your nose and put up with your ILs company every now and again, no matter how much you dislike them. Does he have any reason not to like your mum or is he just being an arse because he can? What would happen if you insisted on inviting your mum over one weekend?

'I met him when I was 17 and he is 9 years older than me and has always ruled me I guess but now I am starting to stand up for myself and not let it happen, I guess that comes with age too.'

Now this sentence speaks volumes.

He's not the boss of you anymore, he knows it, so he throws the teddies out the pram.

Typical behaviour of a fuckwit.

what custardo said

bloody hell, i still have my ex-ILs down regularly, and go and stay with them.

They are really hard work but they are part of my dd's family and so I make the effort.

he's a rude bastard!
