Divorce, anyone able to advise how? What should I know?

Hi, considering divorce, not mentioned anything to "D"H yet. Feel I need to have more understanding of what is involved and where to start first.
We have been married a very long time, no dependents officially, but DD still at home, mortgage paid off, no debt and approaching retirement years. He does and always has earnt way more than me. He is full time, I am part time. His pension is way better than mine.
Where do I begin?
I would be sad to have to sell the family home, as my DD needs stability for her MH (shame he did not consider this when he chose to act in the way he has). I don't think I would have the resources to buy him out, even if he agreed to it.

Where do I go for advice?

Thanks

Go see a solicitor and see where you stand legally Op. The family home will have to be sold but at least you'll find some peace hopefully

The aim with divorce in a long marriage is to make sure that both parties go forward in an equitable position so usually the starting point is 50/50 of all assets - home, pensions, savings. You could ask for more equity in the home and offset pension but that's not usually a good move especially in your situation. If your DD is 18 or over then legally he does not have to support her. Divorce makes everyone poorer so you would have to sell your home and buy a smaller place. I would suggest you look on Amazon for a basic book that deals with the practical steps and then approach a lawyer.
