Can you please suggest golf equipment, golf clothing but note I hate buttons?

Hi, I'm running out of time to get a birthday present for my other half. His interests are music, golf, bee keeping, gardening. Can't think of anything to do with music, and gardening, and bees haven't arrived yet. So I feel I'm just left with the golf. Nothing majorly pricey by the way.

I hate buttons. Why do golfers have to wear polo shirts? Can you please recommend an alternative to polo shirts? He doesn't go to a very posh course but I know he feels he could do with more clothing. Maybe just a new plain old shirt- can they wear them? My phobia doesn't really extend to normal shirts too much.

Also, can someone enlighten me on where to get golf gloves please?

I have to get it sorted by close of play today.

Any other ideas would be great. Cheers :)

There are probably golf tops with quarter zips. Or he could wash his own shirts if you don’t like touching buttons? Alternatively many are now sports fabrics which are non-iron

There may be a golf shop not far from you - worth a google the. You can check sizes etc in person or get a coucher

Voucher

BigFatLiar · 04/03/2025 13:43

Any local sports shop should have something for you. Or depending on the golf courses nearby go their and visit the professionals shop.

Check the dress code at his course- some are stricter. Will be on the website.

Any courses nearby with shops?

MatildaTheCat · 04/03/2025 14:04

Most golfers now wear specialist fabrics which allow them to move freely (and a new way to part them from their money.)

Id go with a voucher since you don’t seem confident on what he might want or need. Could be for a golf pro lesson or for a shop that has plenty of stock.

Also consider the need for decent sunscreen, sunglasses and caps in warmer weather.

Personally, I'd avoid buying something specific to his hobby, unless you are also an expert in the area.

So is it a button phobia, not that you just don't like them due to ironing of something? What about socks or a voucher to a golfing shop so he could pick something himself. Or an activity such as a round of golf with a celebrity or someone he likes?

I know you said no gardening, but does he have gloves? I highly recommend gold leaf gloves. They have longer, gauntlet type or shorter ones. https://www.longacres.co.uk/gardening-products/gloves-and-footwear/gloves/gold-leaf-tough-touch-gloves-mens/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA5pq-BhBuEiwAvkzVZVm3m_RXyHZcL9JhpKa8tBiguyfEDaoW1bD2z8eWJQ5aSXbXuYS28xoCjX4QAvD_BwE

I love Wolf Garten branded tools and recently treated myself to new secateurs.

@Fastingandhungry thanks for those links. Yes I hadn't thought of zippy long sleeved warm tops. That's a great idea. And the gillet idea too. Thanks so much

Thanks to everyone who's responded.

Sorry for lack of any response yesterday. My mum was having a medical issue that can't really be treated so I was by her side most of the day.

I buy the Nike long sleeve, thin tops. They have a neck zip instead of buttons.

Liz1tummypain · 05/03/2025 19:05

Thanks again everyone. Just to explain the buttons- yes I can touch them and I do have one or two items of clothing myself which have a few buttons but I don't like to look at buttons on blouses, shirt fronts etc. I prefer men shirts covered with ties and the buttons on women's blouses to be less visible. They're just yucky. Never have been able to deal with them.

Thanks for your suggestions . I'm going to come back to it again in future as well I'm sure.
