Was I a fool for flirting with a coworker?

She reported me to HR, even though I don't think what I did was that bad. I didn't ask her out or say anything weird, just tried talking to her. She never told me to back off, but one day I go into work and find people wanting to tell me off. I don't have tons of experience but I don't see what I did as that bad. Was I stupid?

What did you do?

RealRoaringRaven · 22/02/2025 22:52

Asked her if she was in school, mainly because I am too and I wanted to see if we connected. Also I asked if she was okay with talking over text.

What would you need to talk to her about over text? You barely know the woman, why did you think that she would be open to be giving out her number?

Striking up conversation isn’t the problem but asking for her number after one or two questions is just weird and creepy. It sounds like you wanted to get to know her but appeared to not really care if she wanted to get to know you.

Now that you do know she isn’t interested, please leave her the hell alone.

Maybe be I’ve been a bit harsh but please, please, please understand that women don’t owe you anything. Maybe if you had taken the time to genuinely get to know her instead of trying to fast track her into something more, you might have avoided the HR dress down.

Take this opportunity to reflect and to learn, instead of going down the victim root that Andrew Tate and his ilk prescribe.

I don’t know where you work but I’m glad HR did their job.
