Heart emojis from male coworker in a work context

What’s the significance if any from reacting to a message in Ms teams with a heart emoji from a male coworker?

Is it just normal nowadays to react to messages like this? I can see some woman do it a lot, but what about males?

I have to say I don’t use that at all and a lot of my colleagues don’t. They might use a smiley face but that’s it.

This guy has previously shown signs of mutual attraction eg checking me in, intense eye contact etc and now heart emojis.

Does This mean anything or not?

My team and I all use heart emojis on Teams to like comments, as do my boss and his boss and they're both male. So that on its own is not a sign but if there are other signals...? Do you like him?

femininomenon · 05/02/2025 21:57

Common place where I work, even between different levels e.g. my boss will heart react to a message I send and vice versa

TippledPink · 05/02/2025 21:59

Agree with the above, we use at work when we are really pleased about a comment! What context was the heart emoji used?

savoycabbage · 05/02/2025 21:59

I think it just means 'ok' or 'great'. That sort of thing because the 👍 is a bit annoying and somewhat passive aggressive.

I've just reorganised the Pensky File. ♥️

We use heart emojis all the time in my work team, literally just means "love" as in they love what you just said

MichaelAndEagle · 05/02/2025 22:00

Agree with others. The thumbs-up now seems to mean 'I've seen this' and heart is now used as a 'i like this'.
Unless the message was more personal?

Seagullsandclouds · 05/02/2025 22:00

Very common at my work.

Thumbs up means you have read and acknowledge, smiley face means you like what is said/done, heart emoji means you strongly agree or strongly relate to what has been said.

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 05/02/2025 22:00

Agree that this is commonplace at my work across all levels, literally loving what the person has done/said.

NormaNormalPants · 05/02/2025 22:01

Totally common in my workplace, absolutely wouldn’t mean anything other than “great” or “love that”, possibly a show of support if someone’s having a tough day

SmileEachDay · 05/02/2025 22:02

Often, at my work, the heart emoji means “thank fuck this is an email that hasn’t caused me any additional work” 😂😂

Wigeon · 05/02/2025 22:03

Men in my workplace (large employer) regularly heart comments on Teams Chats from other men or women, and vice versa. Just means "I really agree" or "I'm expressing some kind of sympathy". Is all totally professional.

Namechangedforthis25 · 05/02/2025 22:03

Do you think or want him to fancy you?

he may do but don’t think the heart means anything - if it did I would be in many awkward work situations by now..

ViolinsPlayGentlyOn · 05/02/2025 22:03

Seems to be used equally as much by the men and women on my team.

JudgeBread · 05/02/2025 22:05

Very common and not at all a sign of attraction in my experience, it's basically just a like button at this point.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 05/02/2025 22:05

Happily no-one seems to use them where i work, just a thumbs up occasionally

OOOtil2025 · 05/02/2025 22:05

Very common at my place at all levels.

astl · 05/02/2025 22:08

I think it depends on what the message is.

I 'hearted' a male colleagues message today as he was saying he'd picked his dog up from the vet and the op had been a success. No romantic interest in my colleague whatsoever

I was off sick a few weeks ago and hearted a few messages saying the hoped I'd recovered well - these were from both male & female colleagues.

Hobbesmanc · 05/02/2025 22:10

There's only a few default emojis on teams so I think the heart one is overused and really doesn't mean anything significant. We work from home so teams is our main communication pathway. People tend to heart emoji cute gifs all the time

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

DappledThings · 05/02/2025 22:12

Same as everyone else, hearts are used by loads of people where I work. Doesn't signal any romantic interest.

ItGhoul · 05/02/2025 22:27

We all use the heart in Teams where I work. It’s just a ‘Like’ - equivalent to pressing Like on a tweet or something. It just means enthusiastic approval. It doesn’t indicate romantic intent.

MissDoubleU · 05/02/2025 22:30

My partner and all his bosses and colleagues of all genders use the “heart react” to like any messages to/from each other. It’s just seen as the done thing and it means absolutely nothing beyond acknowledging the message

category12 · 05/02/2025 22:33

God I really hope it doesn't mean romantic intent 😂otherwise I've been flirting relentlessly with people I've zero interest in that way. 😂

No, my team use it as a thank you, appreciation or sympathy more than anything.

FiveBarGate · 05/02/2025 22:47

Ooh well I've had two from male colleagues today so I must be more popular than I thought 🤣

In our work they go on messages where someone might ask if someone could take on a task and another replies to say 'I've already done it'.

You are loving the action, not the person.

And random pictures of dogs or pandas on a slide.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 05/02/2025 23:01

Literally just means "I like this"

I'm not a fan myself, would rather just type the words, but everyone else does it so apparently work communication is done by emoji these days.
