My partner is an asshole
He does absolutely nothing
He helps but the kids to bed, and falls asleep with them every single night.
Leaving me with the clean up of the dinner I just made.
He does the recycling once every 2 weeks, and this is the absolute only thing he does.
He goes to work on the weekends, promises he will back at X time, and comes home 3 hours later, almost every weekend, leaving me again with absolutely everything and trying to look after the kids. Not to mention, ruining any plans we had.

I said to him, I am done with it, he has no issue making mess, but he doesn't lift a finger, and he literally sat there smiling at me, If my kids were not there, I feel I would have actually attacked him, that sounds terrible but I absolutely cannot cope with this piece of shit bellend.

Everytime I ask him to leave, he just doesn't leave, its a rented accommodation what can I do if I want him gone!

Private rented or social housing?

Both on tenancy or not?

He sounds awful. I hope you will stop cooking, washing for him etc.

If you want advice on getting him to leave, this is important information.

You can move out if you want change

You do not have to stay

Okay, so assuming you are on an assured shorthand tenancy you are both jointly and severely liable for the tenancy.

You could certainly move out, but you still could be held liable for the rent if your ex won't pick up the bill himself. Ditto if he moves out.

You can both agree to end the tenancy but if still in the initial term of the tenancy (as opposed to a rolling month to month) then your landlord could still make you both pay the rent. Unless you can come to an agreement with the landlord.

Billyblue47 · 26/01/2025 18:31

How long is left on the tenancy?

devastatedagain · 26/01/2025 18:32

If he can leave then just tell him to

Dror · 26/01/2025 18:47

You've missed out all the important information. Will the boyfriend agree to be removed from the tenancy agreement? Will the landlord rent to you alone? Can you afford the rent and bills by yourself?

VotingForYourself · 26/01/2025 18:52

you can leave if he won't but one of you has to

The trouble with stopping doing things for a lazy person is that they won’t pick up the slack
you end up doing it to,avoid letting the place become unliveable which enables the situation to continue if you’re prepared to let things unfold it may reach ‘tipping point and you will be compelled to take action!
