Anxious

Ok, I feel ridiculous writing this, but heigh-ho.

I got a splinter in my finger. It was clean wood I think, but I haven't had a tetanus shot for over 10 years, so I think I need to go and get one but I am terrified incase the tetanus shot kills me. There you have it. Make of that what you will

Somebody kick my arse to the doctor's please, or tell me why a tetanus shot cannot kill me. I kid you not, I will sit here and let tetanus develop otherwise. I'm so pathetic sometimes.

It will hurt less then the splinter . It isn't going to kill you, stop being silly. We benefit from having these injections in this country, others are not so lucky. Tetanus is a very nasty way to die. I'd rather have the jab. Stop being pathetic and go to the doctors.

Was this enough of an arse kick?

littlewoman · 06/05/2008 14:47

No it wasn't, but I thank you for your kind concern aveanap .

When I worked at Asda two girls got meningitis and all the staff had to take a very strong antibiotic to be on the safe side. I wouldn't take mine because I was afraid to. Seriously think I am a bit screwed up

i get splinters alot - house full of old beams and garden the same - and i certianly dont get a tetanus shot. i personally wouldnt give it another thought.

avenanap · 06/05/2008 14:50

Is catching the disease more of a scary thought then stopping it?

My ds is a bit needle phobic, I tell him it's better to have one injection and no disease then being ill and having to have dozens of injections.

Go to the Doctor. I've got to do the school run now.

Youcannotbeserious · 06/05/2008 14:58

Agree with Hertsnessex.... I am sure you'll be fine.

Can't see why you would need a tetanus shot.......

But the shot won't kill you!!!

littlewoman · 06/05/2008 15:00

Thank you for replying though aveanap, I do appreciate it. Yes, to me it is scary because there's only a chance that I may get tetanus or meningitis, whereas an injection or tablet will definitely have gone into my body. I probably sound a bit mad, but it is fearful for me - oh I wish I'd name-changed now.

Personally I like h&e's reply. Avoidance is my general MO. Or, I could ask for some anxiety pills, take one and then go and get the shot perhaps

I don't know why I posted this in relationships. Oops.

I was wondering that too, LW!!!!

littlewoman · 06/05/2008 15:44

I'm going to take this off to the depression / anxiety board where they might understand me better

hertsnessex · 06/05/2008 17:17

Take some Bach Rescue remedy and CALM DOWN!!

Sure you will be fine, really.

wheresthehamster · 06/05/2008 17:32

Why do you need a tetanus shot?

I thought you needed it if you jabbed yourself with a rusty nail or something.

Can you really catch tetanus from wood?

mumblechum · 06/05/2008 17:42

It wouldn't occur to me to get a tetanus shot just from a splinter.

If you're worried, put some tcp on it. If it goes manky looking, then go to docs.

Pheebe · 06/05/2008 19:19

littlewoman, if you don't get a tetanus your finger will swell up turn green and explode. the goo will get all over your family and their fingers will swell up, go green and explode. their goo will go all over their friends who will suffer a similar fate and very soon everyone in the country will have popped fingers and green goo all over them. for the sake of the country go and get a tetanus

now seriously, first I wouldn't worry about getting tetanus from splinter unless you've been digging the garden with an open wound. second, what is it you're really worried about seems like you're developing a fear of medical intervention...

littlewoman · 06/05/2008 19:55

Good grief, can that really happen Pheebe? How will we all message on MN?

Not from the wood really, mumblechum, but it lives in dust, soil and faeces (don't anyone ask me where I've had my fingers, ok? LOL). The splinter probably came from a dusty old bed in my daughter's bedroom.

I have a fear of just about everything I'm not used to, Pheebe. Actually quite phobic about eating, if you can believe it, also flying phobia. Think I'm just trying to avoid dying really.

Your immune system will kick in and kill any nasties. Really, try not to sweat it.

littlewoman · 06/05/2008 21:12

Thank you all very much for answering girls. I'm going to see doctor about anxiety, and after that a shot, cos who needs this nonsense every time you get a splinter? lol

I appreciate all your help
