Am I over reacting at DP?

DP has a new work colleague who he’s become good friends with. We’re going through a rough patch, we have a 3 year old and I’m 8 months pregnant. He’s decided tonight he’s going to his friend’s house to play PlayStation all night, literally until 2/3am. We had a really nice time today together as a family but I feel he was just being extra nice because he’s going to his friends, leaving me to deal with dinner/ housework/ toddler bedtime/ Sainsburys food delivery at 9pm. I just feel a bit annoyed for some reason. AIBU?

Is this the first time he’s done this?

Change the locks?!

I agree. He was being extra nice so you couldn’t be angry at him leaving you alone with your DC this evening.

It’s the first time he’s done it. It’s really out of the blue. I suppose I just want to know if anyone else would be annoyed or are my hormones going crazy

I’d have been annoyed. He can go after kids are in bed.

Play station ?

how old is he ?!!!

I really hate that, when they are being nice so that you will forgive something like that. It's really immature behaviour.

AmandaHoldensLips · 18/01/2025 19:43

So he wasn't included in the decision to become a parent, right?

Mrsttcno1 · 18/01/2025 19:50

As a one off honestly this wouldn’t bother me, if it was a regular thing then absolutely but everybody needs a break. Just organise yourself a night of undisturbed time for next weekend OP.

Speaking as a heavily pregnant mother of a three year old (so I know how you feel!) I don’t think I’d really care if it really was just a once in a while thing, we’ve all got to have downtime with our friends. If it turned into a regular thing he was springing on you, yea, I’d have a word but I couldn’t bring myself to be too riled up about this.
I have to say, I do find it quite worrying in a sense that you feel he was only being nice and having a nice family day together so he could get his own way. Is he not normally nice to you, or engaged in family life?

Book yourself a hotel for next Friday or Saturday night. Go there at 4pm and have a long evening with a takeaway and trash TV followed by an uninterrupted night's sleep. Your partner can be on parenting duty at home and do the stuff you're doing tonight.

If it happens Again be lovely back and say " I'm really happy you have this friend to visit and you should definitely go. As a compromise how about you leave at 8 after putting toddler to bed"
