Hello all,

New member here and looking for some advice. Didn’t know where else to turn and when I try and google I see threads similar on here.

Long story short -

I’ve split up with my partner (not married) after almost 20 years together. We own our house, mortgaged, 50/50 and have two children together. He pays majority of bills and I just send him my share of bills each month in to his bank account. We’ve always done this but now we’ve split he’s worked everything out 50/50 and I have to pay half.

I have no family to turn to and work earning between 1100 and 1400 a month depending on what overtime I can pick up. I have no savings and have to give him £800 a month towards my share. Struggling to save up any kind of money especially with Christmas and other costs eating up what’s left of my wages.

Please advise on how I can get out of this situation. I’m desperate to find my own place, rented obviously, I know I can claim certain benefits once I’ve gone but how can I ever get out if I can’t save up.

Doubt there is any advice for me to help but I’m desperate.

Thank you for reading this far!

There’s not much to go on….what equity is in the house? What’s the plan , sell it? He buy you out? Where do the kids go?

He intends to stay in the house and doesn’t want to sell if possible. I am hoping for an easy route of him removing my name from the mortgage at some point and then giving me an agreed amount/buy me out so to speak but I don’t know how agreeable he will be with this.

My oldest child is almost 18 and I believe they would rather stay in this house for convenience. The younger child will be coming with me.

Think you need a bit more clarity -
Starting with how much equity there is in the house, so how much you’d get. Could he afford to remortgage to get this extra amount? And would he agree to this, or to selling? To get your name removed, there will be legal fees (same as if you were moving). When your eldest teaches 18 then no CM would be payable, so at that stage if your youngest was with you he’d be paying to you. Can you increase your hours, change jobs?
