Can you now demand something you've never really had?

Let me ask you guys a question. I know a couple, he's 55 and she's 54. They have been married 14 years and been together some 20+ years. They get along great, enjoy each other's families and have a fairly descent life. They have never been one of those touchy feely couples who can't seem to keep their hands off each other. They've never been big huggers towards each other and they told me a few times that they tried holding hands in the mall once and it just didn't feel right. Granted, they look forward to the weekends so they can hang out together. They may go to the mall together and if she's looking for a new dress he's right there with her but if he is looking for a shirt, tie, or suit she's right there with him helping make the selection.
Here's the thing. When they first met the wife weighed maybe 100 lbs. She was lean and slim and he loved it. He always had an affection to slender petite girls. They don't have anyt kids together but she had 2 from her first marriage and he had one from a previous relationship. Down through the years she has said that she was tired of always being the slender girl so when she started putting on weight she put on weight. On the past years she has gotten up to at least 160+ and is now having health issues but she refuses to lose some weight or even get back down to closer to the size when he met her. Granted, he's put on weight too but we're probably talking 20 lbs or so. As a result their sex life has suffered. He told me that he still loves her but now he no longer finds her attractive. They haven't had sex in quite a while. He has expressed his concerns to her and she feels he should love her the way she is and not the way she was. He even told her she didn't have to get back down to the weight she was when they met but if she could lose 20 lbs or so that would make the world of difference. She will join a gym and maybe go for a month then stop. She'll buy exercise equipment and not use it.
Now she is demanding that he start being more intimate with her and now she wants the romance back. She says it's the little things like if they're sitting on the sofa she wants to put her feet up on his lap and he massage her feet. When they go to bed she wants him to snuggle with her more. No, not sex, just romance. She said they never really was the touchy feely person so now she is demanding something she's never really had. I told her that she can't expect him to just all of a sudden start being Don Jaun overnight if she's not willing to bend a little too. Her weight is a problem for him but she refuses to focus on that. All she sees are other couples who seem to have the perfect life and she wants what they have. He feels that at this age it's not as much about the romance as it is spending time with each other and enjoying life. She wants to act like they're teenagers again. Anytime a commercial comes on TV of an older couple on a mountain hike, canoeing down a quiet stream, walking arm in arm at a farmer's market she feels that she could have that too.
What do you guys think? Is she asking for too much? Again, can you now demand what you've never really had. She has mentioned divorce a few times too.

Who are you and why are they both telling you so many personal details?
I can only think this is perhaps a reverse or a hypothetical situation to aide discussion.

Orangesinthebag · 27/12/2024 13:23

If this is you/ your partner just say it is.

If it isn't it's creepy that you seem to know
so much about another couple and are so interested in their situation 🤔

stayathomegardener · 27/12/2024 13:23

I'm genuinely baffled at your position .

BIWI · 27/12/2024 13:25

AS shows this must be about you. Why not say that?

BIWI · 27/12/2024 13:25

... unless it's to hide the fact that you obviously don't like or fancy your wife any more?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 27/12/2024 13:31

People are allowed to grow and change. Someone who truly loves their partner will adapt to that.

Noerc · 27/12/2024 13:40

I can’t imagine anyone ever saying “I’m tired of being the slender girl.” I can’t quite work out what I find most weird about this... A woman in her 30s at least considering herself the something-girl in the first place. The idea of the slender girl specifically. Someone yearning for years NOT to be ‘the slender girl’ before finally making their dream a reality.

blacksax · 27/12/2024 13:43

Man with ED blames 54 year-old wife for not looking like a slender girl any more.

RupertCampbellBlacksEgo · 27/12/2024 13:45

Why are you writing these people's private business on the internet? You know about their sex life, weight, thoughts, it's very odd.
Don't worry about their relationship, I'm sure they're grand.

LittleHangleton · 27/12/2024 13:47

Man blames his wife for his dysfunctional lack of affection. Then tries to pretend he's not talking about himself when asking for advice.

Trying to speak for your wife in this post is the most insulting. I'd be more understanding if you articulated your own feelings with more honesty

alwaysontheloo · 27/12/2024 13:51

You need to talk to your wife about this. You sound shallow as fuck.

ImmortalSnowman · 27/12/2024 13:51

Wife needs to divorce him. If she wants to lose weight she will. If he loved her he'd give her the intimacy she wants. Menopause makes losing weight difficult and emotionally causes changes. He's awful if he thinks she should be exactly the same when he's not.

JeremiahBullfrog · 27/12/2024 13:56

160 lbs isn't even all that heavy!

Hillrunning · 27/12/2024 13:57

Divorce sounds like the best option here. She wants something that her husband won't give her, time to end it.

Hmm
YesIdolovehim · 27/12/2024 14:07

Of course no one should be demanding anything from their partner. That doesn’t mean that they can’t have a calm
adult conversation about what they would like to change and see what can be agreed. If anything is a deal breaker then they will know if there is a future for their relationship or not.

SilviaDaisyPouncer · 27/12/2024 14:09

We can all tell you're talking about your wife here.

Your wife isn't unreasonable to want romance and no she hasn't priced herself out of the romance market by being overweight. I'm not surprised she's considering divorcing you.

gamerchick · 27/12/2024 14:09

So she's 11st4lbs? You make her sound nearly double that OP.

He sounds shallow as fuck. But who decides they're sick of being the slender girl? Not any lass I've ever met. It's a weird mindset you have there.

gamerchick · 27/12/2024 14:14

Actually reading your other thread, you don't sound as if you're nice to your wife in general. Maybe she needs to divorce you. You aren't meeting her needs or even trying.

Anotherparkingthread · 27/12/2024 14:17

This is going to go horribly for op but if a woman came on and said he shouldn't stand the thought of her husband who had gained another 60 percent of his original bodyweight, heaving away on top of her, she would be told to leave the fat bastard and that it was "grim".

At the end of the day, if it's no longer working for any reason then you might be better off divorcing. You can't force your wife to lose weight nor can she force you to rub her feet.

YesIdolovehim · 27/12/2024 14:19

I’ve seen your other post now. I’m surprised she hasn’t binned you off already. Maybe lay off the church role and concentrate on being kinder to your wife

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 27/12/2024 14:20

I'm guessing that you are the husband here.

Firstly, 160 pounds (I had to look it up because I work in kg) is the top end of healthy/bottom end of overweight for an average height woman. So, unless she is very petit eg under 5'1", she was underweight when she was 100 pounds.

Secondly, if you want a change then be the change. Go on romantic hikes or canoeing with her, even an afternoon wandering around a farmers' market, activity will be healthy for both of you. Do it at a comfortable pace, it's not a forced march and you are not her personal trainer. Do some of the cooking, and I mean properly, plan the meal, buy the groceries, clean up afterwards. I bet you don't do much and if you do it's the cheat day with something easy but not necessarily healthy. Take over the food mental load by standing in the supermarket wondering wtf to make that evening, because I promise you she's fed up with doing it. Make the food from scratch and use a lot of vegetables so she's not still hungry at the end of the meal.

TwistedWonder · 27/12/2024 14:20

Just read your other thread - stop being a self centred prick and get divorced.

Your wife deserves far batter than a shallow egotistical narcissist

I agree with this, I wouldn't find a partner who had put on a lot of weight sexually attractive anymore; I'd also find it unappealing if it was for anything other than health reasons as I enjoy an active lifestyle and sharing that with a partner. That said, as it's been discussed the option is to leave if not happy than to expect to be able to force the others to lose weight.
