Men who hurt women and accuse women of making it up-why?

Do these men really believe their own lies? Or can they just not bear to face the truth about themselves? And does that make them more dangerous in the long run?

I mean, why does anyone, male or female, lie?

Jostuki · 07/12/2024 15:46

Why do women lie about being raped?

Lying and abuse usually stems from rejection and jealously.

Mickelodeonssnazzypot · 07/12/2024 15:51

No, I mean why do abusive men hurt their female partners, then completely deny that anything happened, and make the woman out to be a liar, mentally unstable etc?
What kind of man (and I'm only asking about men) does this? When he knows full well what he has done?

Read Tipsy jokers link above.

It's fascinating.

Basically abusers twist, excuse, downplay & minimise it all so they never have to look their shite behaviour in the face.

Thiscan include deliberate gaslighting.

You're wasting a lot of mental energy even wondering about this, but I think it's essentially about control. Control over the woman, control over the narrative, control over his image. If he can effectively lead a convincing double life, it makes him feel powerful.

unsync · 07/12/2024 15:55

An abusive man does that. They know they're doing it, they like the power it gives them. They don't care about the woman, so the lying is irrelevant to them.

In my experience because they can.

My ex was only upset if other people knew and then the upset was that I told them. It didn't stop his behaviour. He enjoyed it and he could so he did.

Octavia64 · 07/12/2024 18:16

Me Ex sort of did this.

It wasn't me (his partner) but his daughter.

He pushed her into a door. Her arm was bruised really badly all along.

Afterwards what he said varied from

"She deliberately made it up to get me into trouble"

"I didn't know it would hurt her so much"

"I didn't see her"

"I was pushing to get past and she was just in the way"

I came to the reluctant conclusion that he knew what he'd done and would say anything to avoid the discussions that I wanted to have about it.

We both left. It wasn't the first incident.

When asked to make sure he didn't hurt anyone again (our condition for staying) he said he couldn't guarantee it.

This.

Who cares why. A man like that is a piece of shit that needs to be removed from your life as soon as. Don't waste headspace trying to work out why. Get rid, as fast as possible. Walk away and don't look back.

financialcareerstuff · 08/12/2024 13:32

I agree with the above. Asking 'why' is often a woman's first step to building up their empathy and excuses for that person.... making it understandable is a step towards making it acceptable. It isn't and it never is. It can also encourage women to think "maybe if we can work on/change the underlying reasons, we can make things better'. Again, you can't and it's not your job.

The answer also seems blindingly obvious. It is pure self interest, Admitting it would mean being honest with yourself and others, having to take responsibility, opening yourself up to the shame you deserve to feel, being deservedly ostracized from your friends, family and community, losing the relationship that is meeting your needs for having somebody to bully who gives you the benefit of the doubt, and quite possibly making yourself vulnerable to being arrested. Of course they lie. There is really no deep, mysterious reason. Pure, logical self interest on the part of a shitty, selfish person who does shitty things.

Because they’re abusive cunts who get off on controlling, manipulating and gaslighting you. Don't waste time and energy trying to understand why a POS is a POS - just walk away
