DP had another woman's shorts in his bag

My DP and I recently went for a night away at a hotel. When we got back he took all the clothes that were in his bag and left them on the sofa. As I was tidying up I found a pair of women's size 16 shorts amongst the clothes that were definitely not mine. When I asked him about it he said that he just shoved all the clothes that were in the hotel room into his bag as we were getting ready to leave and thought they were mine. When I said they were not mine and I had never seen them before, he said they must have already been in the hotel room.

I just can't help but think he has been cheating and they were already in his bag as I'm sure I would have noticed if someone elses clothes had been left in the room once we got there, also the hotel was clean and tidy when we arrived.

Do you think it could be possible he is telling the truth?

Does he bring the bag to a gym or pool? Would be easy to pick up a pair of shorts there

Would they fit him?

Did he put his stuff in the drawers/cupboard? It would be easy to miss something already in there towards the back and then scoop it up with your own stuff when packing. I came home once with a nice pair of brand new ladies sports socks which I kept/wore.

I also left my nightie and dressing gown hanging on the hook on the back of the bathroom door of a hotel room. I rang and they found them still there. They weren't visible with the door fully open so even though the room had been cleaned the cleaner hadn't spotted them.

If he'd come back from a lone hotel visit with ladies clothes I would be more suspicious!

What else does he use the bag for?

I found a bra in our hotel bed. And I've left a coat behind once, I wouldn't be too worried.

Things do get left in hotel rooms and housekeeping isn’t always great. I once found 2 pairs of very sexy black knickers in the back of a hotel drawer. Imagine some man putting all his stuff in the drawer and then taking these home.

Is it his gym bag too?

People will say this is awful but I'd be going through his phone to check he wasn't up to anything.

Are they underwear shorts? Or normal day wear shorts? Or for exercise?
Can't see how he would end up with mistresses shorts in a bag and not notice before the trip.

In all honesty you know your husbands type, is a size 16 the kind of woman he goes after?
like my friends husband loves women around 14/16 but my ex wouldn’t have fancied anyone more than a 10 so I would have bet my life’s savings he wouldn’t cheat with a size 16

It seems odd. Unless either of you went to the hotel laundry and accidentally picked another person's item left in the machine?
But the idea he'd shag someone then in a frenzy of lovemaking with a random, she left the room minus half her clothing? It also seems a bit bizarre. If he's got form for cheating then I'd be suspicious.

We had a random mans sock appear in our house a few years ago. I hadn't been having an affair (and I'm pretty sure DH hadn't been either!) Absolutely no idea where it came from. No guests in the lead up, kids are young and hadn't been to anyone elses house where they could have picked it up by mistake. Baffled us for a while! We still laugh about it now.

I’ve cleaned hotel rooms and tbh you don’t have a lot of time. 30 minutes per room. It is tight. I do check drawers but possibly not every time and often just a quick peek if something was dark and at the back it’d easily be missed.

I would believe my DH in this scenario, its certainly believable. I'm absent minded and once packed a friends trainers after a weekend away because I have a similar pair, even though I hadn't packed mine for that trip!

What made your mind go to cheating? Are there other signs? Does he have form? If there's no other shady behaviour then I'd accept the explanation

We found some random female’s clothing in my laundry/bag one day - I certainly hadn’t been cheating and thankfully Mrs no biscuits believed me - we just laughed it off as one of life’s mysteries.

Are they the sort of thing you'd wear? If not, it seems unlikely he'd just pick it up and pack it. Surely he'd be like "hey dw are these yours, I've never seen you wear them"

I think they were already in his bag.

And yes, I agree with pp above who suggested he might have been wearing them himself
