Separation - ex dragging his feet

Hi all,

I’m separating from my partner and I have sent him numerous emails and messages for the past 2 months about plans to move in January to my mum’s house 12 miles away with the children (3yo and 10 months old) to ensure a stable future for them and putting DD in a kindergarten attached to her primary school from next September.

Partner is refusing to consent to moving the children and following my plan and has been very unreasonable so far - even suggesting I move out on my own without the kids and he stays and looks after them with his mum in their current home. He is using the fact I am going back to work soon against me insinuating I won’t be primary carer anymore.

We have discussed the option of mediation and he is saying he can’t do it until November. This leaves no time for it to get resolved by court in time for January. All he’s saying is he needs the time to speak to a lawyer - but that doesn’t take 2 months.

I don’t know what to do - I can’t speed him up but I want it sorted as I have places for new nurseries to secure?

I dont understand why you think you need his permission to move 12 miles. Just leave.

The pulling out of nursery aspect he’s finding particularly hard and having his children taken away from him…….

so? Youre are no longer together and it doesnt sound like you are married either.

speak to a solicitor and stop believing what he says.

You're moving 12 miles away. You're not taking his children from him. He can still see them.
He's just being controlling about the details of the split, which is the commonly the last desperate act of a dumped loser. He wants to get in some control while he still has the chance. Just move. You don't need his permission.

He's made up that law, you don't need his permission to change to a nursery 12 miles away. Don't engage with him further on the matter and just get it done when the time comes.

You don't need mediation or a lawyer to separate when unmarried either. Stop believing every bit of crap coming out of his mouth and get yourself proper advice.
