Snoring!!!

Daisysandwine · 03/09/2024 11:48

So apparently I have started snoring in my sleep which I’ve never done before! My partner has taken to getting up during the night to sleep on the couch besides waking me up all the time which he used to do to tell me I am snoring!! I’m a bit embarrassed about it and don’t want him sleeping on the couch because of me but he is a very light sleeper and the smallest noise keeps him awake. What can I do to shop snoring?? Any advise greatly appreciated!!!! Is it a menopausal thing??? I’m at the age of peri menopause/menopause.
just to add I have tried sleeping on loads of pillows and it doesn’t help. Thanks 😊

Tell him to get ear plugs it's what I do he won't hear you then

Iwantacupoftea · 03/09/2024 11:53

Yes try ear plugs

MichaelandKirk · 03/09/2024 11:56

Ear plugs wont work. That suggestion is allways made by people who dont snore themselves or who dont sleep literally next to a snorer. If it was that easy then you wouldnt get the many many threads from people claiming to be ready to murder their partners. Loss of sleep is a form of torture.

Seperate rooms or what about white noise bands or ear plugs. Not cheap but it does drown out the snoring so that the primary noise you hear is the white noise.

Loops ear plugs are good and comfortable for side sleepers. Unfortunately they don't always drown out the noise, so you need to look at what could be triggering it. Weight gain, alcohol consumption , dehydration, started sleeping on your back because you're warm, any of those familiar? A new pillow may also help.

Ear plugs help me sleep next to a snorer but there are different levels of snoring. If it's particularly bad they don't work, but for the most part they do. It's just finding the right ones. I use Loops which are great at blocking out noise.

He doesn’t want to use earplugs but just reading your message, I have noticed I’ve been sleeping on my back a lot as I moved house a year ago and there is a new heating system in the house which is making it impossibly warm at night. I used to go to bed dressed head to toe and now I i can’t even have the duvet over me

If he doesn’t want to use earplugs my suggestion isn’t helpful, but it depends how bad the snoring is. I used to wake my husband up multiple times in nearly murderous rage, and I now use the in ear bose headphones specifically for sleep (which have been discontinued, but they have been reformatted and are now on sale through another company) and they single handedly saved our relationship, no joke. I drove home on Christmas Day when I realised I’d forgotten them! Hopefully it will resolve but if not, these are the only things that meant we could share a bedroom (I now snore cos I’m 9m pregnant, but that’s a different story hahaha)

That's probably it then. You need to cool your bedroom down. Try freezing a filled hot water bottle and take it to bed with you. A fan could be a double solution too for warmth and sound ,if you can both deal with the white noise.

Works fine for me ...

I’ve yet to find the miracle ear plugs that block out snoring

writergirl007 · 03/09/2024 22:15

You need to try things to stop snoring - nose strips, mouth guard, different sleeping position, trip to doctors etc.

It's not your husband that needs to change anything. Ear plugs are uncomfortable. It's not his problem.

Speaking as someone who used to sleep with a snorer....then in a separate room.

ThereIsIron · 03/09/2024 22:43

Why is the room so warm? Can you not adjust the heating? Try sleeping with fewer pillows so your airways are better positioned. Are you overweight?

blahblahblah24 · 03/09/2024 22:47

Why can't you turn the heating down at night? Ear plugs have given me so many issues, impacted ear wax and infections. Do you need to lose weight? Too much fat on the neck can cause snoring

Ght · 03/09/2024 22:54

Losing weight helped me. Are you overweight?

Biggaybear · 03/09/2024 22:57

How is YOUR sleep OP ? Do you feel tired during the day? Do you wake up during the night ? Reason I'm asking is I'm thinking Sleep Apnea. There is another thread on here currently about scoring & I'll sat on here what I said on that one.

CPAP machine.

I was a very heavy snorer for years. Feel asleep during meetings at work Neighbours even got the council out to test the loudness as I was giving the street awake !!

Since being diagnosed by the Sleep Disorder clinic & using a CPAP machine my sleep is so so much better. And I dont snore at all......and I sleep on my back.

Dont try nose strips, mouth guards or tennis balls sown into your PJ's. You & your DH will be glad you got it medically diagnosed.
