Husband always falls asleep in front of tv

My dh falls asleep every single night in front of the tv, cradling the remote. Always with some noisy crap on tv. Every night this results in an argument with me telling him to just switch the damn tv off & go to bed, or at least hand over the remote & let me take charge of it! I hate most tv, it's just annoying noise these days.
To be fair he is 60 & still works hard, whereas I have an office job. The only respite we get from this scenario is when we're on holiday. Even at the weekend when he's not working he's the same. I have a study I can disappear into to get away from the tv. He loves his tv.I could do that every night, but once you start spending every evening in separate rooms you are likely to become house mates. We could go out somewhere, but by the time we've eaten, cleared away, caught up with jobs etc it doesn't seem worth it.
I dread retirement if it's going to be like this every night. We've only been home from our holidays for two nights & already the arguments have started. He's had health checks, takes tablets for high BP but that's the only thing he has.

This is my dh. He works shifts so usually falls asleep in front of the telly about 6ish. Thankfully during the week he'll go to bed after a bit of prompting but won't do this Friday and Saturday night. When I see him nodding iffy I ask him for the remotes and as soon as he's asleep I change the channel to something I want to watch.

Mine does it too. I just ask for the remote immediately, or go and do some gardening or something. You can also turn down the tv using a different remote eg the sky or the tv remote both work in my house, and sometimes the tv itself has an off button.

Is there a question here anywhere?

Linearforeignbody · 26/08/2024 14:15

Mine does it too, but he works crazy hours.
He’ll be less tired once he retires.

But if he's asleep does it matter what room you are in?

And can't you just grab remote when he's asleep and put something you want on?

I am failing to see where the argument is.

I can pair my phone with the tv, so can operate it from there. Is that a possibility?

My DP does this but he's often up early and out to work at 6am so he's knackered. I just change the channel or leave him on the sofa and go to bed and read. It does annoy me occasionally but I'm more sympathetic than angry.
