Do you celebrate anniversaries?

So I'm wondering what other people do about anniversaries.

Do you and your partner celebrate any anniversaries? If so what are they, like wedding, day you met, day you became a couple etc...and what do you do? Recognise with a meal out or a simple "happy anniversary", or go all out with a card, presents, big party etc?

Our wedding anniversary. We have a bbq with our friends every year.
It's the main reason we got married- excuse for a party 🎉

We used to celebrate our "becoming bf/gf" date when we were young. We try to celebrate our wedding anniversary with cards, very small token gift and try to carve out a bit of time on our own together but the last few years we've not even done this. We are in an incredibly difficult season of our lives with young ND kids, a house renovation, financial pressures, health worries and family issues. We know we treasure and adore each other but we've agreed not to put that additional pressure on ourselves for now.

Not really. DHs family don't really do celebrations as they have a small family and I've leaned into that. We say happy anniversary on our wedding and genuinely marvel at the 19yrs years since our wedding, how it's flown, feels more like 10. I have a record of the date we met and again Can you believe it's been 25yrs. I don't think it needs celebrating tbh, you're either with the right person or you are not.

We have been together almost 15 years and we tend to go out for a meal on the date we got together but then last year we got married so will celebrate on that day instead from now on

Been married 44 years and celebrated every anniversary. Always give each other a card and most years have at least gone out for the day. Some years we have gone away for the night or longer.

We celebrate everything. Sometimes a weekend away, or a meal out, sometimes just a bottle of fizz.
We are here for a good time, not a long time. 😁 Every day is precious.

We mark our wedding anniversary and exchange cards. We usually go out for dinner too on or around the date. For 'big' anniversaries, 25th and 30th, we went away for a few days. I'd much rather have a holiday than a party!!

Been together 42 years from 1st date married 33 years always celebrate both. Always both give a card. I always get flowers too. Sometimes go out or takeaway or DH cooks a special meal.

With XH (together 12 years) we married straight after Xmas so often forgot about the Anniversary until it was upon us. Usually just a card and maybe some flowers if he was feeling generous!

With XP (together 10 years) we celebrated the date we met with cards, little token/thoughtful but not necessarily expensive gifts, flowers etc and a meal out.

We also went out plenty and gave each other gifts/flowers throughout the year, it doesn’t have to be one or the other!

Current BF of a year, can’t remember the date we met. He already has 2 wedding anniversaries and a ‘significant other’ anniversary so he doesn’t need any more Grin

Pre-marriage, we'd celebrate around the time of our first date. Now married, we'll do something on or near our wedding anniversary, usually just a nice meal out, but no gifts or cards.

Nope, not our thing. If we want to do something nice we just will, I’d rather not wait for an anniversary to need a reason to.

Edited

It’s not either/or; it’s possible to do nice things throughout the year and also on an anniversary.

Always makes me laugh when posters have to state that they don't celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, Valentines Day etc because they "show love all year not just one day" or, as in this post "they do nice things throughout the year".

We often go out for the day and have lunch out at least once a week but still celebrate our anniversary, our birthdays and Valentines

We always go away for our wedding anniversary, kids included. No cards or presents but we do a meal out on our anniversary and raise a glass together / usually a nice cake or something. On lockdown we got dressed up and did a fancy meal at home because we couldn’t go away. It’s nice to mark the day.

SnapBang · 01/08/2024 10:57

Actually I said no cards but DH sneaked a card out in his suitcase for our last one and that was lovely!

HarpieDuJour · 02/08/2024 11:59

We got out of the habit of celebrating in the early days of our marriage, because we literally couldn't afford anything, even a card. Now, after 30 years, it doesn't seem important to mark the actual day. We have a little ritual, where one of us says "Isn't it our anniversary today?" and the other one says "Oh, so it is, do you fancy a cup of tea?" If we have some in anyway, we might also have a biscuit.

I don't want presents or cards and I'm allergic to a lot of flowers, but I would be a little bit upset if we both forgot. It is a tiny thing, but it has meaning for us.
