Divorce - how to challenge things? (Bad title!)

Sorry it’s a rubbish title but I’m just wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of where to find some examples that I can use regarding the financial settlement.

Ive got a good solicitor but am trying to keep the costs down and have been sent the paperwork plus a ‘No Prejudice’ (or whatever it is) letter with my ex’s offer and what he thinks is reasonable. I need to counter some of these things but I’m not the most articulate and wondered if anyone can point me in the direction of anywhere where there are examples of (if you like) counter letters.

If that makes any sense then great and thank you!

Would Citizens Advice help you? They’re brilliant at all sorts of advice issues.

try Chat GBT. Honestly - if you say the specific thing you'r enot sure about, it can probably advise. eg, I typed in "In a financial settlement proposal after divorce, what does "no prejudice" mean?" and this is the answer I got:

"In the context of a financial settlement proposal after a divorce, the term “no prejudice” typically means that the proposal or agreement being discussed or offered will not affect either party’s rights or claims in the future. Here’s a more detailed explanation"

Then it gave me a bunch of other info.

So you coud summarise his proposal then tell Chat GBT to write a letter that includes your counter proposal which is A, B and C. Then, and this is very very important, EDIT taht letter. But it gives you a first draft.

Try looking on the Wikidivorce website there is tons of information on there.

More simply put, ‘without prejudice’ means the court can’t see the letter / it won’t be put into evidence if the matter ends up in court. ’off the record’, if you like.

I would use their letter as a guide and just write what you want for each asset / liability. If you have a solicitor though I would run it past them to check first before sending, as it’s not just general correspondence, it’s an offer of settlement and you don’t want to get it wrong.

I would second using Chat GPT if you want to take what you write and make it sounds better but still make sure it’s in a suitable voice and not from a robot!

Thank you all - really appreciate this. I just need some examples of how to word things.

Well, that's impossible - there are 100000 versions out there depending on what you need to do.

You could lay out all the details here and perhaps someone would be willing to help you. Or you could use ChatGPT as suggested. Or you could write it and ask your solicitor to check it over. But you're not going to get a handy template without a lot more information from you regarding what you want to propose.

Here is a potential template, created by ChatGBT:
