Brand/Type of Pregnancy Test

Hello all, first time here.

Not sure which Topic this one goes into. Long story short I've just exited what my friends describe as an abusive relationship. We go no contact for a couple of days then a few days later my mum and myself get a phone call saying that there's an emergency.

Turns out my ex-Girlfriend is pregnant.

I'm not entirely sure how as she was on the pill. She did take Ozempic. Anyway it's a huge shock to me and she admitted to not taking a pill sometime a few weeks ago, alongside a lot of her mental abuse being around not being committed enough, not talking about houses, not buying a car in an afternoon. We had moved in together in April (known each other since late November).

She said it was weird it being heartbreaking when a doctor says congratulations for being pregnant on the phone.

Anyway Friday we discuss and it's only a couple of weeks old, she feels guilty that she put my future at risk for telling me about Ozempic (and the one instance of the pill). It's not my choice what she does, I only really can say a preference.

Yesterday a much more heated discussion (I had confided in a friend who turns out I "wasn't allowed to speak to because they don't have kids"). She had threatened her life down the phone earlier that day.

Anyway the point of all of this is that she, when we meet, says she did another test and instead it says she's 2 to 3 months pregnant. So she gets out a test that looks like a Clearblue that says "2 to 3 Months" - which then obviously gets confusing for timelines as her last period was third week of May (we were in different countries for two weeks and I know she wasn't pregnant when she left! ).

I've struggled to find this test anywhere on the Internet. I have taken to recording our conversations for my safety and I've transcribed just so I could remind/reassure myself I had seen this.

So basically Mums of Mumsnet, can someone guide me to where this test is?

Thank you

Concerned possible future Father

I’ve not heard of a months indicator test, there really isn’t any need for one and, as you say, nothing comes up online. Has she sent you a picture? Maybe do a Google reverse image search, I would be wondering if she’s lifted a fake picture off the internet tbh.
I work with Drs and I’ve never heard one say congratulations when giving a pregnancy result because it may not be a happy event. In fact if a woman has done a home pregnancy test the surgery doesn’t even test, just tells the woman to self refer to midwifery services once they are 7+ weeks pregnant. If a woman has certain symptoms they may ask for a sample and test, but they would then just confirm it was positive or negative. Maybe Google procedures for your surgery/area as I thought most areas were self refer to midwife with no dr involvement these days.
She must also be eagerly awaiting a scan appointment if she’s so far gone so you could ask to attend the scan to see your baby. If she refuses and offers a scan picture instead, it’s useful for you to know it prints the mothers details on the top of the picture. I’ve heard of people selling scan pictures to women to dupe ex boyfriends. Of course if she is pregnant and carrying your child then that’s a different set of problems for you but, as my brother was trapped in an abusive and controlling relationship for far too many years, I can sympathise and say I hope you can manage to remain distant from her and move on with your life.

Thank you for your message. I didn't see a picture I literally saw the thing in her hand - it's why I'm asking as I've never seen it before, and some of my friends have never seen it, but it was definetly a Clearblue

Hi OP, this test doesn’t exist. There is the Clear Blue one which tells you how many weeks up to 3+ weeks but there isn’t a test for months. However it would be easy enough if it said 2-3 weeks for her to edit a photo to pop the word “months” there rather than weeks. My baby is 11 weeks old now and we went through just about every possible brand of test when trying to conceive, it doesn’t exist.

Mrsttcno1 · 07/07/2024 11:36

Just saw that it wasn’t a picture, if I was you I’d be going and getting a test yourself and asking her to take it. It’s quite possible she’s just bought a clear blue and then stuck the words there to fake it I don’t think it would be too difficult to do, or it could be a prank test from a joke shop. There really is no months indicator tests, ClearBlue is the only one that even does weeks up to 3+ weeks. If she is 2-3 months then book a private scan to go to together.

I honestly don't know what to believe. I'm going to some pharmacies to check

There are a million different fake pregnancy tests out there. Just googled it. I'd get a scan asap or go with her to doctor/ buy your own test and wait while she does it

Mrsttcno1 · 07/07/2024 12:09

Yeah agree with previous poster I’m sorry OP but this sounds very much like a fake test for pranks. There is no test which tells you how many months pregnant you are.

Cosycore · 07/07/2024 12:09

OP. I really think you need to consider that this is further abuse.
Im sure its crossed your mind that she might be lying, or else you wouldn’t be here.

Please dont let her use this manipulation tactic to stay with her. She may well be pregnant, and all you can try and do is what’s best for your child. You seem quite sensible in that you know it’s not all your decision.

I would just keep reiterating your boundaries to her. “We are not together but I will support your decision”.
Attend appointments if you want to.

Mrsttcno1 · 07/07/2024 12:12

I’ve actually just had a look and there is a few Etsy shops selling fake prank Clearblue pregnancy tests with the screen on. All she’d have had to do is buy one and ask them to pop “months” on the end as they are putting a false result on anyway.

TheShellBeach · 07/07/2024 12:15

Hi OP.
I'm a midwife.

There isn't a test which shows months. There is no brand at all which does this.

There is a Clear Blue weeks indicator test, which goes up to 2 - 3 weeks.

She has made a mistake when reading it.

Ozempic is known to interfere with the action of the Pill.

Not taking the Pill correctly can also result in pregnancy.

If she wants to keep the baby, and you're not sure if it's yours, you can get a DNA test done, once the baby is born.

Peonies12 · 07/07/2024 12:15

The clear blue test definitely shows weeks only, that must be a fake test or fake photo.

There's no need. If you don't believe all of us, just ring up Boots if you must.

Thanks for your response - the thing is I have seen it for my own eyes saying 2 - 3 months and didn't question it (transcript also indicates that happening)

It's a prank OP.
You can Google it.

Just go to Etsy website and search “prank Clearblue pregnancy test”. It states on the website that they are using real tests so they are just popping text onto the screen, meaning they can just as easily write “2-3 months” as they could write “hello”.

Vddz1815 · 07/07/2024 15:54

Very concerned now. I have a screenshot of a midwife appointment in 10 days time (the first meeting, not a scan) which makes it all seem weird timing wise?

Also when I searched the NHS Website the trust/hospital referred to was not the one the booking suggests it's going to. Is that normal?

you would usually get a midwife appointment at approx 10 weeks. So none of the timings make sense at all.

What are you going to do op?

What should they be, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm shocked really, not sure what exactly to do.

Mrsttcno1 · 07/07/2024 16:59

It depends on the area I think but typically for the NHS you have a booking appointment between 8-12 weeks although they do try and make it as soon as possible as there are some tests they do then which are best done before 10 weeks, then you have first scan between 11 and 14 weeks.

It can be normal for your appointments to be somewhere other than your typical hospital though because midwives don’t always work out of the hospital. My baby is 11 weeks old now so I went through this fairly recently and although some of my apps were at the local hospital I also had some at a family hub as midwife worked out of there 2 days a week and then I chose a different hospital for my birth so I had some there (all scans were at birth hospital).

If she has just reported the pregnancy to her GP or referred herself to maternity services then an app in 10 days would make sense, especially if she thinks she is 8 weeks+ and has told them that.

Vddz1815 · 07/07/2024 17:15

So she said that she has to wait longer for an NHS scan post this appointment. Am I right in thinking a self referral could just be cancelled at any moment?

Yesterday when I was with her she was touching... there... saying she was checking for blood in case of a miscarriage (getting worried about pooling).

I have no idea how to take this on, I've tried before to challenge areas of the story but that was met with frankly brutal reactions, "can't believe I chose you as the father" was one of them.

I am fortunate to have a Policeman friend who did say he's seen pregnancies, real or fake, to keep someone around.

Ah, so your friend is a misogynist. Nice.

Look, whatever the gestation, you'll find out soon enough if she's really pregnant.

Mrsttcno1 · 07/07/2024 17:27

That’s right yeah, so you have your booking appointment which is basically just them taking your bloods for some tests and asking you lots of questions and during that appointment they book you in for your first scan which will be at around 12 weeks.

Nobody checks you are actually pregnant until you get to your 12 week scan and there is either a baby there or not. In theory you could just fill in the referral and lie and until you had your scan nobody would be any the wiser.

You can cancel at any time and lots of women do because sadly 1/4 pregnancies do end in miscarriage so you would just call back and let them know you no longer require it.

TheShellBeach · 07/07/2024 17:27

Yesterday when I was with her she was touching... there... saying she was checking for blood in case of a miscarriage

I've never heard of a woman doing that.

Checking when she's in the lavatory, yes. But not sticking her hand down her pants in front of someone else.

Agree with this, I was very anxious about bleeding during my first trimester especially and did check every time I went to the toilet but I’d never have stuck my hand down my pants to check infront of someone?
