Emotionally drained/depressed in new relationship

I met someone a while ago and he's a nice guy. Things were going good but I'm at a point where I'm emotionally and physically drained. I cannot function.

He has his own issues too. I try to help whenever I can.

He is insecure and sometimes a bit "needy" but I do really like him!

Does anyone have any experience of this?

Do I try to fix things? If so... suggestions greatly appreciated.

I

Why are you emotionally and physically drained? How long have you been together?

PaminaMozart · 16/06/2024 04:47

Don't focus on fixing this - focus on 'fixing' yourself. Why are you emotionally and physically drained? Fix that - get therapy.

I feel like when I'm around him, my energy gets zapped. It's been over a week and it's starting to affect my life.

We have been together 4/5 months.

I have been working on myself for years and I do feel like I need to keep it up. I do really like him though... so if things don't improve.. I'll have to end things

End it. You should be having fun at this stage in a relationship and be getting to know each other. You are not his therapist so can't help with his issues. Stop trying to be a white knight.

If he's already sucking the energy out of the room when you're with him, it's certainly not going to get better, only worse.

This is a good time to move on.

Good relationships don't start out with either partner feeling drained by being with their partner within a few months of the relationship starting.

I would have left by now. Spent to long getting myself together and I did meet someone and after 2 weeks quickly picked up on the he needed a support aswell as a partner and I wasn't willing to become that councillor, therapist. Made it clear to him and we are still friends 3 years later speak about once a month and then I did meet Mr right and totally different together now over 2 years and I can honestly say its been the best of my adult life

That's basically what I've been trying to help with.. (Talking about his issues) but I've gone backwards. I know what I need to do

End it, a relationship especially this early on should be light heated & fun . I've come out of a 4 year relationship where I've been someones therapy person. He is a lovely person & we had some great times, however he had a lot of issues & moaned A LOT. I now realise that I started to mirror this behaviour too. Now we have finished I feel like the old cheerful me again. Lifes short, enjoy it

He's not a project or something for you to fix
