Age gap question

mrspoodlepug · 14/06/2024 09:06

Is it possible that a woman in her early seventies would fancy a man approximately fifteen years younger? He knows her through dog-walking. Embarrassingly, she audibly groaned the second she saw that I was with DH today. I had been trailing behind and she hadn't seen me while she was talking with him.

Yes. Why ever not?

mrspoodlepug · 14/06/2024 09:36

I just thought she was an older lady who enjoyed a chat.

Nicebloomers · 14/06/2024 09:38

lol you’re the competition.

How rude of her! Is DH ok with her being unkind to you?

SheilaFentiman · 14/06/2024 09:39

why shouldn’t she?

also, though… I am no where near 70 and I groan for all kinds of reasons- ankle pain, feeling knackered, remembering chores I need to do..

somethingwickedlivesnextdoor · 14/06/2024 09:40

Of course she might!!

How embarrassing for her. What happened after the groan?!

mrspoodlepug · 14/06/2024 09:46

What happened after the groan was a couple of pointless comments from her about her dog and then it was ok, bye. He did say to her probably see you this afternoon or words to that effect. I was a bit taken aback so can't really remember but DH and I walked away in silence, I didn't know what to say, he didn't say anything, then we started talking about something else. The groan was definitely related to seeing me. Imagine having a talk with someone about something important but then someone else interrupts and you have to stop. It was that sort of irritated groan.

In my experience ladies of a certain age give zero fucks about being rude. She probably likes his attention.

Berlinlover · 14/06/2024 09:57

Have you posted about this lady before?

MyPearlAnt · 14/06/2024 10:07

Yes entirely possible.
Your husband's silence afterwards makes me suspect that she'd been flirting with him, he knows her disappointment is from 'heartache' at seeing you 😂
Your husband might find her flirting harmless or too embarrassing, depending on how attractive she is and what type he normally goes for.. some men like older and some women do not look their age! I'd say watch out 😉

Lurkingandlearning · 14/06/2024 10:25

“No fool like an old fool” doesn’t only apply to men. Finding a man 15 years younger than her doesn’t make her a fool, groaning because she realised you were with him does. Thinking that age gap is acceptable to everyone also makes her a fool. Not realising women of her age are unlikely to turn a younger man’s head also foolish.

If she thinks she’s in with a chance and is working on that despite knowing he is married that makes her an arsehole.

If your husband is encouraging her he is also an arsehole just as he would be if he was encouraging a younger woman.

I do hope he’s not. I’ll probably get told I’m wrong but there is something icky about older women pursuing much younger men, especially elderly women. Perhaps I just feel women should know better and leave that kind of BS to men

mrandmrsrobinson · 14/06/2024 14:00

What makes you think that women over 70 are dead below the waist?

SheilaFentiman · 14/06/2024 14:03

Sexist much, @Lurkingandlearning ??

She was having a conversation with him on a dog walk. Maybe she found him atttractive. But she was hardly giving him a lap dance!

Is it sexist or ageist. Or realistic.

Unless you feel you understand what happened better than the OP who was there, the woman wasn’t just having a conversation on a dog walk.

Of course you might be the elderly woman who groaned when you saw the OP. In which case I take your word that it was just a conversation and the groan…. You’ll come up with something to account for that. But I still think a woman who looks 70+ is unlikely to be attractive to most men 15 years younger. Sexist, ageist or just so unfair most men don’t get the hots for old ladies

OldWoMum1 · 14/06/2024 15:55

She sounds very rude but she might not fancy him, she might like talking with him and then when she realized he wasn't alone she got pissed off that she wouldn't get to have a chat. If that is true then I would wonder why she can't have a chat with both of you. The answer to that might be that she has developed a level of familiarity with him and that is potentially dangerous ground.

Ah, I will clarify for you. It is sexist to hold women to different standards than men, as per the above.

Have a lovely day!

I wouldn't put it like that but I suppose I just find it surprising. It's an assumption I made based on my lack of knowlege of women over 70 and their feelings. If she had been a younger woman I would have been really angry if she had done that.

I can do without drama when walking the dogs quite frankly!

Are you sure it was a groan? I’m only 60 but it could well have been an uninvited noise from somewhere else were it me 😁

if you feel uncomfortable about it, just talk to your husband.

Personally, I’d take it as an opportunity to rib him about his admirer. ie, its really not a big deal (unless you’re worried he may pursue it).

Seaoftroubles · 14/06/2024 16:52

Why on earth didn't you mention to him that he had an admirer? She clearly enjoys chatting to a friendly younger man whilst out dog walking, probably boosts her spirits no end.
It was a bit rude to groan audibly when she saw you hove into view but obviously three's a crowd! Seriously ask him if he was aware he had a fan!

Have a lovely day!

I am 11 years older than my male partner, we have a beautiful 1 year old boy. He is the most considerate, kindest and genuine man I've ever been in a relationship with.
Hope that doesn't give you too much of an 'ick'.
I'm sure if the man was older you wouldn't give it a second thought.

Jentefieldroamer · 14/06/2024 17:24

I know a woman this age who likes younger men. She always goes for the wrong type and they use her for sex, then dump her, once abroad, left high and dry. She's never learnt from this and continues with these dramas. It's quite sad really as she's very unhappy.

StopStartStop · 14/06/2024 17:25

Of course!

Hi @rebecca100

Absolutely no issue or ick from me

The part in bold was me quoting another poster and the part in plain text was me telling that poster she was being sexist.

Glad you have a lovely baby with a lovely man Flowers
