What tricks do MNers resort to, to hide their MN habit from their DP?

I thought I had minimising the screen when I hear DH's footsteps on the stairs off to a fine art. Last night, however, he crept up behind me and shouted "caught you!" Need a new strategy. Any ideas?

I do exactly as you do...whilst adopting a sheepish expression.

But in my defence I have much more fun on here than being downstairs watching him asleep on the sofa with his mouth open

Elephantsbreath · 05/04/2008 15:24

Oh I don't bother at all.

I once even read out to him all the negative comments he was getting from my supportive Mn friends.

WallOfSilence · 05/04/2008 15:27

Why would you feel the need to hide it?

I don't bother.

He often sits beside me & reads it over my shoulder!

He doesn't hide his boring old footie sites from me either...

padboz · 05/04/2008 15:32

my bloke permanently looks like this since I found this bloody site. My sex life is suffering, my bladder capacity is significantly increased because I fail to take toilet breaks and I'm starting to lose interest in my personal appearance.... helpful supportive site for parents my arse

ShinyPinkShoes · 05/04/2008 15:38

Padboz I think you've just given us our quote of the week

southeastastra · 05/04/2008 15:51

lol padboz. my dp doesn't mind, he's never really here much anyway. in the evenings it gives him an excuse to watch football.

maidamess · 05/04/2008 15:53

I hide it because I no more want my dh reading what I type on here than I would like him eavesdropping on a night out in the pub with my mates!

My time is my time. I get little enough privacy as it is!

padboz · 05/04/2008 20:40

ShinyPinkShoes - in my tiny world, MN blinkers firmly on, thats the best thing anyones said to me for ages

soapbox · 05/04/2008 20:42

clam - is he your DH or is he the thought police?

Why on earth would a grown woman have any inclination to hide her perfectly normal addiction posting on a parent's website?

marina · 05/04/2008 20:43

Dh is under the impression it takes three hours to do an Ocado shop

dp doesn't have a problem with my mumsnet addiction habit support group.

He has a particular sarcastic voice that he only uses when saying "oh, I suppose you saw that on mumsnet did you?"

We did go through a bit of a rough stage when he felt that I was spending too much time on here and neglecting him, so I cut down loads when he's around (unless he's pissing me off)

When I do feel the need to hide it from him, I ask him a ridiculous question that he can't possibly know the answer to, complain a bit because he doesn't know, then I say "I'll have to google it, it's bugging me" and if I make tut noises every so often, I can normally grab half an hours MNing before he starts to get suspicious.

clam · 05/04/2008 21:19

Well, even DH had to admit to understanding the obsession for chatrooms when he got involved recently - not on MN, however, but on a site discussing "discontinued chocolate bars!" I think that gave me the moral highground for a bit...

Come and vote this your Quote of the week!

lucyellensmum · 06/04/2008 16:02

I have the clothes horse behind me, so i just get up and start fiddling with the washing. Now whenever i get up to go on the computor, he says "so you are doing the washing then?"

bergentulip · 06/04/2008 16:14

Having recently joined MN, and increasingly getting more and more addicted involved, I feel naughtier and naughtier. I am definitely still minimising the screen, because until about 2 weeks ago, I and DH would both agree that all these chat sites, including Mumsnet , are all utter tishtosh, and just another way for the government to stealthily collect more and more information on people, and create little profiles for us all....... and mass corporations, and advertising etc.... for that same reason I am NOT on Facebook et al.

And now look at me! Is there a MN-Anonymous anywhere out there? Can I attend meetings? :0)

clam · 06/04/2008 16:21

WELL I wouldn't feel the need to come on here if DH would provide a proper listening ear when I ramble on about stuff. "Hmm? What was that?" is NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

My DH googled my name on here and read my posts. At least this is more interesting than his Land Rover and gliding sites!!!

tiredemma · 06/04/2008 18:00

I say that I am 'researching' for an assignment ( which quite often I should actually really be doing)

dizzydixies · 12/04/2008 19:23

college work
checking the bank statements - I mean have YOU done it recently, NO of course not, why is it always let to me
