What's your age range, and how old are you?

And how old/young is too much. ?

I've recently met someone, IRL. Older than I thought, older than i would have put if i was OLD. It feels weird when I think about it, but it's not when I'm with him/talking.

I'm 35 and I'd say 32-45ish. Happily married though so hypothetical.

It also depends on the type of person and what they do, their activity levels etc.

Rania78 · 18/03/2024 17:54

I am 46 and I am looking at 43-55. This is the ideal range but you never know what happens in life.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 18/03/2024 20:02

@Rania78 exactly that, if I did OLD there's no way I'd set an age as old as he is. Then again, I wasn't "looking" but we have found each other the old fashioned way and there's a lot to like

I'm 35, age range 40-45. Maybe a bit older depending on how they are. Can't really bring myself to fancy anyone younger.

Whsthappensnow · 18/03/2024 21:34

I'm 46. My ex was 49.

I have been separated for 2 years and I've dabbled a little bit with OLD. I set my age range 35-55 thinking somewhere in the middle would be ideal.

I had a brief fling with a man of 44 and ge dumped me after we got together.

I decided to try a bit older and was talking to a bloke of 52 who ghosted me before arranging a date.

So then I went back to talking to younger ones and I'm not having much luck there either. Just been ghosted by a 39 year old doctor who blatantly just wanted a hook up.

I think mid 40s is a tricky age for single women. I'm taking another break from it because I think the constant rejection is damaging my mental health.

Eyesopenwideawake · 18/03/2024 21:44

My biggest minus was 7 years (my 28, him 21), biggest plus was 21 (me 21, him 42). I still think of both with no regrets.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 18/03/2024 21:46

@Whsthappensnow that's exactly why I haven't done old. I don't think I'm cut out for it.

I'm 27, DH is 40. Currently trying for a baby.

DoorPath · 18/03/2024 21:58

I'm 40, and my age range would be 32-52.

Whsthappensnow · 18/03/2024 22:11

@Illbefinejustbloodyfine That's the point. I was trying to be open minded about everything. Age in particular because I kept getting told 'it's a numbers game ' but sifting through all the wrong 'uns is so time consuming.

Also the older ones are cagey with thier info and apparently look and act even older than they actually are.

I found it wierd that I'm often asked for more photos and I think it's either because they're chancing thier arm about getting rude ones or they are trying to see if I could actually pass for younger.

However I accept men my actual age are peak mid-life crisis in my experience so going a few years up or down would be OK.

Having said that there are 2 men IRL who are single and who I find attractive and both are younger. One is 39 and one is 43.

fourelementary · 18/03/2024 22:13

I’m mid forties and DH is nearly 60. When we met I’d have said no more than 5-8 years older would have been acceptable but in reality when we met and just clicked… age didn’t matter.

WhatShallIdo11 · 18/03/2024 22:20

I’m 66 and have been having a relationship with a 53 year old for over 3 years - it bothered me at first but he wasn’t fussed - I’d known him for many years before getting together - neither of us were aware of each others age - it’s difficult to define our relationship - a bit more than a FWB thing - we are both free to see others if we so wish - when I have seen others, they have ranged from 55 to 69 - when you get to my age, age doesn’t matter.

Usernamewassavedsuccessfully · 18/03/2024 22:31

Im happily single but if I did OLD in a fit of madness, as a nearly 50yo my range would be 45-52. I don't find older men remotely attractive - I'm very aware they would likely feel the same about me. When you grow old with someone, that's very different.

watermelonsugar56 · 18/03/2024 22:37

almost 32, married but if I wasn’t it would probably be 28-35. God I’m wild 😂

occhiazzurri · 18/03/2024 22:37

I think the biggest issue is being at different stages of life - kids/different ages, working/retirement. I was at an alumni event where someone ten years older asked me out (50s) and I just think it is too much of a gap to pursue even if we met IRL. My interests and mindset were much closer to the other single person at the event who is ten years younger than me.

Britinme · 18/03/2024 22:52

My DH is only 7 ½ years older than me. He was 60 when we married and honestly it hasn't mattered much mostly. Now he is 81 and I am 74 it's becoming a bit more noticeable but that comes to all of us I think.

MaxTalk · 18/03/2024 22:53

Married but anyone -10 years to + 3 years would be in with a shout.

Whsthappensnow · 18/03/2024 22:56

@occhiazzurri I think you have hit the nail on the head there. I did my travelling etc when I was young. I had my DC late and where I live now I am one of the oldest mums in the playground. Most of my friends are at least 10 years younger than me so I do feel more on that level.

Wooloohooloo · 18/03/2024 22:56

I'm 43, wouldn't date younger than 35, ideally over 40. Highest would be late 50s. Some of that is to do with not wanting to date someone with young kids. I blended families in the past and it was a nightmare so don't want to go down that road again.

Then go for it :). It’s more important to find a good match than stick to numbers. Haven’t read all postings and apologies If you have already mentioned this, but what is the age difference?
Mind you, I have done some OLD and I have seen 50 years old looking fit and great and 35 year olds being not so good looking and in bad shape.

GlitterBall91 · 19/03/2024 11:02

I have a DP but I’m in my early 30s and would go from my age (no younger) to about 40 if I didn’t

SamW98 · 19/03/2024 11:42

I’m 55 and never dated more than a few t and either side.

My OLD range is 50-60. Much younger or older doesn’t appeal to me

Gamerlady · 19/03/2024 11:55

Age is just a number, I'm 43 my other half is 50 .

Anotherparkingthread · 19/03/2024 11:55

I'm not in a relationship but I think 10 years each direction is fine for me, outside of that I'm not sure we would have much on common or similar experiences, though wouldn't theoretically have a problem with a larger age gap if it was otherwise perfect. I'm 35.

I think with somebody now who is 6 years younger than me but you can't tell to look at us and it doesn't cross my mind at all that there's any gap. I think a lot also depends on the person, a physically fit and athletic 40 year old with active hobbies and social life will feel younger than a 30year old coach potato who never wants to go out and is happy to just sit on front of the TV each night. So a lot comes down to personality and expectations as well.
