Did anyone regret changing their surname when getting married - Can I risk upsetting dh and family by changing mine??

It is strange that marriage which was a purely a practical decision for me is now throwing up an unexpected problem.

I have been married for over 2 years and at the time agreed to take dh name - He is an only child from a very small family and for him me sharing he surname was important. I did want the same name as my children. I am from a very large family - have 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

However I have not got used to being Mrs X - I still think of dh mum when i hear the name, and I have retained one credit card and facebook profile, email address is still in maiden name.

On a purely asthetic level I have a scottish first name and my maiden name is scotish so they sound better together

I think it would upset dh and family if I stated I wanted to go back to my old name though and I suppose it is not worth it. Tricky thing identity.

I kept maided name for work and bank accounts etc. But I am finding it increasingly difficult to keep this up as the banks are not keen for you to have two different names, and I am getting into various tangles with having the right bit of ID in the right name. I think sooner or later sheer bureacracy will force me to have everything in one (married) name. Not happy about it though.

I kept my name..the thought of changing all the bank accounts, tax, savings, credit cards and emails! Arg! At work I kept my name (and my work email, I am still ME) or occasionally tack DH name on the end.
DD is double barrelled.
DH was not bothered about me changing my name...what is the point? was his view, also it implied that suddenly something strange happened to me in the ceremony and I would cease to exist as I had done for the last 34 years and yet DH would be exactly the same...strange convention I think.
My dad approved.
My MIL was gutted and also about the double barrelled DD.
If I am out with DH I often get referred to as "Mrs DH-name" but it does not bother me particularly.
