staying married for the kids

Not sure I love DH anymore. We have been together 32 years. Is this normal after this amount of time? No intimacy anymore and I feel like we are housemates rather than a couple

This is me too, no sex for several years, and in separate bedrooms for about 3 years.

I think it’s fine as long as you maintain the respect for eachother and get on. Respect is more important in love imo.

Staying together ‘for the kids’ when there’s tension of clear apathy where you barely interact, isn’t for the kids at all. When you get down to it, it’s usually for the parents. Which would be fine if it’s not impacting the kids.

Kids learn about relationships from those they see growing up. Living in an unhappy household will impact their childhoods and their adult lives.

How old are they?

longpathtohappiness · 25/02/2024 13:40

Alwaystransforming I understand what you are saying but not as simple as that

ParrotParrot they are 20 and 22 so adults but living at home. The fact they are living at home is keeping me going at the moment 😕

They are not kids.

You have 1 life. Live it in a way where you have joy day to day. This isn't about finding another relationship, just about waking up at peace in your own space.

I don't think you are staying married just for the children at their ages. My dc are much younger and I am. There will be other reasons too such as fear of the unknown but essentially there is a convenience element to it all.

Either way, it isn't a pleasant situation to be in.

Aquamarine1029 · 25/02/2024 13:52

They are not kids and you don't have to sacrifice your entire life by carrying on with some charade.

I agree with this. I am so much happier and content on my own and in my own wee house than in my massive house with a grumpy ex dh.
