A year ago my dd, who is now 18, told me that she had one boob bigger than the other. Tbh I feel absolutely awful for not noticing, but we are not the sort to get naked in front of each other. She’s always been a private person and wouldn’t even walk around in her undies, so I’d never actually noticed. Tbh it wasn’t that noticeable, but now that she’s filled out more it’s noticeable in tight tops. She has long thick hair which she wears forwards to cover it. She can’t go braless as you can definitely see it then.

I told her we’d have to get it checked out and see what can be done (surgery I guess) but she’s mortified at having to show her boobs to the doctor and keeps putting it off. I mentioned it to the doctor when I was there myself and she said there’s a three year waiting list for that sort of thing.

We went shopping yesterday and everything she tried on she couldn’t buy. I feel so sad for her as she should be enjoying clothes, not trying to hide, but just won’t do anything about it.

Mmmm

RobinsInTheTree · 29/01/2024 20:00

It would be rare to find a body that IS symmetrical, so really the situation with her breasts is quite common.

Surely not to the extent where you can’t wear certain clothes and gave to hide from embarrassment?

This is really common - I have one which is noticeably bigger out of a bra. She needs a bra that fits properly, I'd start there

Not sure what Mmmmm means?

Yep I thought this was normal. Mine look quite different if they aren't covered up.

jf1992x · 29/01/2024 20:07

18 is a hard age for hating your body regardless what it looks like. Asymmetrical breasts are extremely normal... you'd struggle to find a pair that are exactly the same!

SanFranBear · 29/01/2024 20:09

Mine are definitely different sizes... I thought most womens were. That said, it's not a cup size difference which, from what you've said, sounds like your DDs could be?

Could she maybe get a padded bra and remove the padding from the larger side?

It’s a good cup size difference. It’s enough for it to be commented on, definitely not right.

A girl I used to work with had one implant on the NHS due to the size difference

WeeOrcadian · 29/01/2024 20:20

Could she buy a bra sized for the larger side and then 'pad out' the smaller side?

It just looks so different padded out 🥲

Seriously what is the problem? Most women have different sized breasts.
Go to Bravissimo or such, get a very well fitted bra and ask them how to minimise the difference in size - they'll show you what to do.

Channellingsophistication · 29/01/2024 22:50

I have one bigger than the other and was told at a recent mammogram that’s its the same for most…

A professional bra fitting is probably a good option

MoonWoman69 · 29/01/2024 23:20

One of mine is a cup size difference too, pee'd me off when I was younger, but I've learnt to embrace what I was given... I'm 54 now!

justanothermanicmonday1 · 29/01/2024 23:25

What a weird thread...

CharlotteStreetW1 · 29/01/2024 23:28

Mine are very different sizes. When I once said about getting the larger one reduced, DH suggested getting the smaller one made bigger 🙄😄

I'd just like to have my nipples pointing in the same direction (preferably upwards!).

But it's absolutely normal.

The only time I noticed it with clothes was when I had a button-through dress which ended up on the diagonal.

floppybit · 29/01/2024 23:38

I have one a full cup size bigger than the other. They are huge and I'm having a breast reduction in a few weeks so will hopefully end up with a pair the same size for the first time which will be lovely

floppybit · 29/01/2024 23:41

Hit post too early - meant to say, didn't bother me when I was younger. I think young women are so bombarded with images of perfection now it makes them self conscious. I would get her to show a female doctor first to get an opinion on if the difference is severe enough to warrant surgery. Hopefully she can make peace with it, at least until after she's had children (if she wants them) as this causes so many changes to the shape and size of breasts

Purpleraiin · 29/01/2024 23:55

Not me personally but sounds similar to a friend of mine. I'm not exactly sure of her situation but I think it was something like the breast tissue in one breast didn't develop properly. I think she ended up with an A cup on one and and a fully developed C cup On the other.
She was given implants On the NHS at 19 as it affected her mental health. She had them redone on the NHS when they were due to be changed. After that surgery she was told she would have to pay in future as the NHS weren't offering it anymore regardless of her situation.

aitchteeaitch · 30/01/2024 00:27

My feet are two different sizes.

seriously what is the problem???? Wow!!!
The problem is that this is causing my daughter much embarrassment as it’s THAT noticeable! There cannot be any mistake as it’s so obvious

AGirlWithAHandOnHerArm · 10/02/2024 23:33

I think you are getting a hard time here OP and I’m not sure why? I actually think it’s abnormal for a breast size to be a cup size difference and must be awful for your daughter’s mental health, confidence and self esteem. A padded bra is not going to fix this “little” problem.

I agree with a poster above, female GP, then at least a plan for surgery so at least she can take some control to fixing it and building her confidence. If the waiting list is too long, is private an option?

RedHelenB · 10/02/2024 23:36

But not to you until she told you. I'm surprised you haven't already taken her to a decent bra shop for advice tbh.
