Experiences of family therapy

Has anyone ever taken part in family therapy as a child? Did it help? How do you look back on it now and how do you see your parent’s decision to do family therapy? Struggling to make a decision about this - in the midst of some difficult family stuff which is affecting everyone… neurodivergence, depression, teen issues, etc - and wondering how my children will view it in years to come. Some perspectives from anyone who has been through the process would be great.

I can only offer my persective as an adult who has recently done some family therapy (through CAMHS), and, on the whole, it's been helpful (my teenage daughter would probably be more luke warm).

My view is that, if you can't see a way out of particular family problems, it's worth trying anything that might help. The trouble is that family therapy does rely on some active buy-in and engagement from the child (and adults too). So it seems to be key to find the right person who can build a rapport with the young person (and adults too). Good luck
