How do I leave partner and afford to rent and live somewhere on my own?
Things have come to an end with partner and I have to leave. We private rent and his parents own the property so he will obviously stay here and I will leave. We have a 6 year old and a 20 month and childcare will be split equally. I earn about £1500 a month and The cheapest property to rent where I live is £1100. My son is at school so need to stay in area. How am I meant to rent and pay bills and everything. I have a feeling of complete dread in all of this and can't think straight about what to do. What have others done? Thankyou

I would have thought you would get some financial support from universal credit towards housing/living costs?

Unfortunately it's one problem to another. In time though it can get better and be worth the suffering.

Check your entitlements to help with rent and tax credits. And he will need to pay maintenance for his children. There are calculators for both online.

good luck.

Check the Turn2Us website for benefits calculator, and consider moving somewhere tiny if rent isn’t covered, until you get on your feet. I did it with my toddlers before, all of us in a tiny 1 bedroom for about a year, but we’ve come a million miles from that time. You’ll be in a much better position to think once you’re away from an unhappy relationship.
