Domestic abuse helpline

i phoned a helpline yesterday as I don’t live in the uk near my family.
‘The professional listeners are ex social workers psychologists etc and receive training beforehand. This is not the first time I’ve phoned. I always feel a bit better afterwards as I’ve managed to speak about my situation.
Anyway yesterday when I phoned the person said it’s not the first time you’ve phoned and there’s no point in going through it all again !!!! I’m going to give you the number of an association you can phone. Baring in mind the association doesn’t offer a helpline service it’s works on a appointment basis. I was really upset and put out tbh I thought it was highly unprofessional. The whole point of that line is for women to phone when they need. The association is closed at the moment and with the helpline I feel like it’s something when you feel the need you can phone them . AIBU ?

If you are not going to listen to their advice I don't blame them.

If you want ti offload you can do it here but be prepared! Responses may be blunt.

Go to a therapist/counselling?

Tbh, I can potentially see their point. They don't exist to make people feel better. They exist to help people escape domestic abuse. For every call they take from someone who hasn't took steps to leave their abuser, they could be helping someone who WILL take their guidance and put it into action.

I understand that leaving an abuser is no simple thing. But they can only tell you the same things so many times. They aren't the samaritains. I understand that they feel like a lifeline and it feels unfair that they would dismiss you. But sometimes... you gotta just push the baby bird out of the nest and tell them to get on with it. Otherwise they just keep asking you for help and not doing what they actually need to do themselves.

You have to save yourself op. Now that doesn't mean there isn't help available. But sometimes people use these systems to...stall. And to bent and decompress. Which is not what they are there for. And ultimately, would not help you leave.
