living apart but want to marry

we are both pensioners on a state pension and pension credit but would like to marry. We both live in separate houses he lives in a bungalow and me in a flat nearby. We are both on full housing benefit due to low financial status and my partner is disabled on PIP. It has been said by a relative that if we marry one of us will have to give up their property as the council will not pay for both properties if we marry. We don't want to do this as the situation works well for us and we enjoy time together but also both like to have our own space. We would never want to live together as his bungalow is very small and so is my flat. It wouldn't be practical either. Please advise where we stand with this. Thank you

I'm inclined to agree with your relative.

Why do you think tax payers should pay for a married couple to have two separate homes ? Confused

Out of interest, why do you want to marry if you have no intention of living together ?
