How would your MIL react if...

She came in your house & you were dying of a hangover & were just out of bed at 3pm?

But the house was shining, a washing was hung on the line & her big strapping son was cooking a batch of pancakes?

lucky you.

My mil would freak.

onepieceoflollipop · 17/03/2008 21:46

Wish I could draw you the face...

Imagine looking down nose, screwing eyes up and pursing mouth up like a cat's bottom.

Then a sulk due to my disgraceful behaviour.

What was your mil's reaction!?

magnolia74 · 17/03/2008 21:47

Mine would sit down and wait for her pancakes

barnstaple · 17/03/2008 21:47

She would thoroughly disapprove and all her complaints, many and varied and mainly made up, would be proven. She would spend the rest of her life telling everyone and mentioning it innocently every time she came round or phoned.

Good luck

controlfreakyagain · 17/03/2008 21:48

you weren't stoopid enough to let her know you had a hangover were you?

I would tell her I was ill. And there is no way she would be anywhere near our house uninvited and unexpected.

you got to stay in bed til 3pm and your dh did all that

rantinghousewife · 17/03/2008 21:49

My MIL is great but she would be a bit , she already thinks I don't look after her son properly, (She's too polite to say it though)

Louandben · 17/03/2008 21:50

Mine would be right alongside magnolias, telling DH exactly what she wanted with hers and to hurry up with mine as I was suffering! My MIL is lovely !

Toothyboy · 17/03/2008 21:50

She would say "Good on ya, Toothy - you deserve it" Honestly! And yes, I do appreciate how lucky I am to have a nice MIL !

StealthPolarBear · 17/03/2008 21:50

she would laugh at me and ask for a pancake.
she wouldn't be too shocked though - it's my mum who almost nominates dh for husband of the year when he picks up a hoover! Odd, as my Dad isn't really a caveman.

WallOfSilence · 17/03/2008 21:51

Mine ruffled my hair & said: "Bad night pet?"

I complained I had lost a whole day as I had been up for a while but tbh I was still drunk... then had a nap & have felt better since.

I said I was affronted that she saw me hungover & dh fending for himself... she said it wouldn't do him a bloody bit of harm!

She is great, we quite often share a bottle or two of wine, but I have felt awful all day.

I will never drink again.

Actually I'm not sure if it's what I drank or what I ate but I have been throwing up all day...still now at 9pm

Dh was sick last night too & he only had a couple of beer.

I would also pretend I was ill, but if she found out I was hungover, I think she'd have a bit of a chuckle (with only the teensiest bit of malice!)

RosaIsRed · 17/03/2008 21:52

My MIL would go to court and get an enduring power of attorney over DH's affairs on the basis that he was not capable of managing. But I would never, never, admit to MIL that I was suffering from a hangover, I would pretend it was a very contagious illness and she would stay far, far away.
So what did your MIL say?

WallOfSilence · 17/03/2008 21:53

Mine was babysitting whilst we were out last night!

She even tried on my big velvet shamrock hat when we came home!

I know I'm lucky to have her! And I do tell her all the time

Oh x-posted. Lucky you, WoS. What a fab MIL you have.

bonkerz · 17/03/2008 21:54

My MIl would send me back to bed and declare it was about time DH did his bit and i deserved some time off!! I know im lucky but MIL does tend to side with me alot!

WallOfSilence · 17/03/2008 21:58

Yes, she's very good to us.

I think she sees a lot of herself in me (she has said so a time or two) and we haven't always got along though.

She tends to think very like me & sometimes it's not a good thing!

But today I was glad as she took the kids down to her house to watch a dvd & dh got to have a nap as he has night shift tonight
