Does anyone know what Slotties is?

I tried calling DH only to find he had left his phone at home. As I answered a message popped up from “Slotties”. Turns out DH has 2 email addresses needless to say I only knew about the first one and slotties email the second. I’ve tried googling but can’t work out what it is. Porn site? Cheating site?
Appreciate it doesn’t look good but trying to think it all through rationally.
Happy New Year

In fairness OP..I have a second email address that I don't think DH knows about. It's not for anything dodgy, just that I use it for online shopping, apps, games...Mumsnet etc...basically anything like forums or sites that you end up getting loads of annoying sales/spam emails from. I just like to keep it separate from my main (important) email address.

Also to add, that if your DH plays a lot of games on his phone (or does indeed watch porn) then he's likely to get emails from all sorts, including companies/sites he's never even visited. So I wouldn't read too much in to a simple email notification.

If you have no other reason to suspect anything dodgy, certainly don't go snooping and invading his privacy. If it were me and the curiosity was getting the better of me, I'd just be honest and say 'oh when I rang your phone earlier when you left it at home, a notification popped up, it was for Slotties or something like that, I've never heard of it before, is it an app or game or something?' You will be able to judge by his reaction if it's something he would'nt want you knowing about.

ThreeTreeHill · 01/01/2024 19:14

When you say message notifications what do you mean? Like an app notification? A text? An email?

Googling Slotties comes up with nothing much, so it's possibly just spam. Or it could be a silly app game. It's nothing big like a dating app or well known porn site

43ontherocksporfavor · 01/01/2024 19:17

Just ask and gauge his reaction.

RolyPolyBatFacedGirl · 01/01/2024 19:19

I'd try and have a little look later on if I could - just to understand exactly what it is

Why would it shock you for him to be gambling? Just not the type?

sprigatito · 01/01/2024 19:21

My 19yo and his mates refer to fruit machines as slotties. So I would assume gambling.

Exactly an email notifying you that you have a new message eg a new DM via an app. Rather than try to open the DM I just went off googling the app.

Thanks for responses. Maybe asking the Q is simplest…

I’ve concluded that it’s too unknown to be a cheating site.

I think this website seems most likely in which case it’s pretty innocent unless I’m totally naive or believing what I want to believe. Why the second email address?

Another email address could be for many reasons, and could have been deliberately created or has come with an account from something.

e.g. My primary email address that I use doesn’t actually exist. (Currently - as the provider is changing their legacy systems and I will get a free years subscription when they migrate to the new system)
It relates to a web domain address I own, and the email works as forwarding addresses

I have a selection of email addresses on that domain which forward to the ‘real’ address that I use. I have changed the real address provider a couple of times, and updated as I moved

Other addresses that I have or have had are my internet providers email format, some fairly randoms which I give to some places on the internet so they don’t associate with the real me or so they can be discarded if they end up with spammers etc.
Others that I have are a Microsoft account (I register with my primary but can receive email addressed to a microsoft address and an apple icloud address

Having just looked at my iCloud address there are ‘game’ emails on there, which might tie in
But I don’t have my Microsoft, iCloud or my random disposable addresses configured on my email apps - which means i don’t get notifications if something uses them.

For a second email address to pop up a notification then it would need to be configured on the phone etc

liveforsummer · 01/01/2024 22:03

Sounds like a junk mail address to me

ClareBlue · 02/01/2024 02:05

But nobody is focusing on what OP has said about unaccounted for money over the years. Obviously a significant gap for it to be an issue with him not having the money expected. Then we have a known term for online casino slot machines. The main sites call the casino fixed odds betting terminals (their proper name) slots. It's not really that much of a stretch to think their might be an online casino called slotties. I would be looking at finances in a bit of detail.

ClareBlue · 02/01/2024 02:11

OK, sorry about this as it's not what you want to hear but try slotties.club
Good Luck, hope it's just a one off, but doubtful with your other info.

ClareBlue · 02/01/2024 02:14

Sorry, typo. It's slottie.club

This is a full on gambling website. It's not innocent at all.

ClareBlue · 02/01/2024 02:35

The 30 times play through for the sign up bonus is not permitted by UK regulation so it is operating outside UK gambling regulation, the app itself is not a safe down load according to my software. All the games are fixed odds betting or slots as they are known to gamblers. Designed to be highly addictive, and they are. The actual games are hiding behind the download that if you do the download it triggers notifications. So once downloaded you will continually get notifications enticing you in. If you want to get technical about the payout percentages then they are very poor but as it is unregulated it's doubtful the info is accurate anyway. It's the sort of app that might buy emails and spam people with offers even if they haven't signed up. Hopefully for your sake that is what has happened.

beetr00 · 02/01/2024 02:41

https://www.independent.co.uk/betting/casino/best-online-slots-uk maybe these kind of sites have been grouped on his phone into "Slotties"?

Slamming as a descriptor in the term "slamming hot" would mean extremely.

Think it was used as a verb. Slamming is shagging/fucking/bedding

Zanatdy · 02/01/2024 05:06

I’d assume gambling, especially since you said he seems to get through his salary quite easily without much to show for it. I’d either have a look next time you get a chance, or ask him. It could be something innocent or it could be something very serious and if he is gambling the sooner it’s out in the open the better

DoAWheelie · 02/01/2024 05:24

You have missing money and a gambling website. I think you need to have a frank discussion about your finances and ask to see bank statements.

I'd also run credit checks etc and make sure there isn't hidden debts you don't know about.

WhatisSlotties · 02/01/2024 09:16

Ok thanks. Can I insist on seeing personal bank statements when joint finances are healthy? Surely he would just say it’s his money to do as he pleases and none of my business

OP posts:
ClareBlue · 02/01/2024 11:26

That's a difficult call. If it is a gambling issue then it is usually progressive and esculates and eventually joint finances will be impacted. But if it's not, then it's a huge step to push for full disclosure of spending when it's not something you normally do. It's highly likely that he will see it as negative and you not trusting him, however you try and sell it as a genuine concern. This might cross a line, even if everything is OK, that is difficult to come back from.

I would keep a close eye on finances and see if he is avoiding some expenditure or not participating in things that he might usually do. See if there are delays in paying joint bills or excuses that don't add up. You are already perplexed by his vague reasons for not having money so you must have had some time when it was an issue for some reasons.
Just be hyper vigilant for the next few months and look at any conversations in a new light and really think if it makes sense what is being said. If things are not adding up then you will need to think again about what to do.
You can do year end on all bills to make sure none were late or missed without making it a big deal.

@WhatisSlotties

i would never arrange my finances as you have. My opinion is that you're a team, incomes go into the joint pot and if you really need to have 'personal' money, the same amount of money gets transferred into personal accounts.

Done your way, no, you don't have the right to see his bank statements or demand he justifies his expenditure.

As others have said, it could be an innocent notification (advertising stuff). I get some utterly random shite notifications.

it could be he has a gambling problem, but with all the 'pink' it sounds more like a sex thing of some kind.

I'd dig a bit.

if you being so certain it wouldn't be gambling I'd be tempted to ask him.

ClareBlue · 02/01/2024 12:42

I've run security on the App. Anyone thinking about downloading it, don't. It's a nightmare of an App which will spam you. This might have been what happened to your husband and he is still getting pushes from them.
They have a sign up bonus that gives you 10 dollars cash back for a wager requirement of 10000 dollars (I'm not kidding) playing at a 6 percent loss on fixed odds betting. So the maths say you will loose 600 dollars whilst trying to get your 10 dollar cashback.
The NYC condition for any payment of winnings is Know Your Customer which is a specific gambling site requirement and is used as an excuse not to pay out if you ever win.

Aaron95 · 02/01/2024 13:09

If you Google "slotties" the first hit is a slot car racing place in Australia (some sort of Australian puggies). The second hit is this thread so it would seem not to be a very common phrase.
