Shot gun licence and DA

Asking for a friend, who has gone no contact with her father - he has a history of unreported DV and psychological/emotional abuse against her.

If the father turns up at her home after she has requested no contact and she reports it to the Police what will likely happen? He has a shot gun licence. She is wondering if armed police would turn up.

If she mentions the shotgun, possibly, yes. Is he a farmer? Probably a good idea for her to phone the non-emergency number if she has any worries at all so the police can put a firearms marker on her property.

Op please suggest your friend contacts one of the domestic violence organisations like women’s aid. She should also consider contacting the police to report the unreported DV and make police aware that he has a shotgun license.

He claims the shot gun is for his hobby of rabbit shooting, but he is not a farmer @Cherrysoup

I'm a pc
Armed police will not deploy unless there is mention of the weapon being used or wielded. Otherwise it's just a run of the mill harassment incident and response would deal with it .

xyz111 · 29/12/2023 20:00

Does he actually have a shot gun license?

Domesticviolenceadvice · 29/12/2023 20:01

@capabilityfrowns thank you. Can I pick your brains some more. If they turn up at her home after she has requested in writing they are not to contact her directly or indirectly, what is the next step she could take?

Response officers will attend, if DV related the gun should be seized and taken away, that's my forces policy anyway, may not be the same everywhere.

If she has explicitly said she doesn't want contact then further contact would constitute harassment.

She could report to police - if they are shouting and threatening at her door - 999

If they turn up knock and shout through the letterbox "love I want to talk" 101 and it will be crimed as harassment and handed to an officer on response to investigate further

There are several ways that could be dealt with depending on her wishes .

By 'if they turn up' do you mean her father OP - ie 'he'? I think if he does that the next step would be to apply for a harassment injunction against her father.

RCS Solicitors

Harassment is when someone, or a number of people behave in a way which makes you feel distressed, alarmed, humiliated or threatened.

She has gone no contact with both her parents, but it is her father that has the shot gun licence.

He has a calm demeanour until he snaps then he gets nasty. She is therefore unsure of what he is capable of when faced with such a rejection as no contact.

She needs to understand the next steps if things escalate so to take the appropriate response.

She has installed a ring doorbell.
