Hi,

Lately my husband's behaviour has changed. Nothing dramatic but enough to make me a little suspicious. To my knowledge he has never cheated but he did get very close to one of his female work colleagues about 2 years ago. Texting her all the time - said they were just friends. I believed him.

Anyway he's recently started working late. He's never done it before but I know he has a lot on at work. He's on his phone alot. We do have access to each other's phones but don't go on them unless answering a call for other half whilst they are driving etc.

Curiosity got the better of me after reading about what apps lock chat feature on another thread. Am I right in thinking that the view locked chats option will only appear if you have a locked chat? Because yes I checked and he has that on his phone? I tried it on mine and it would only appear when I locked a chat?

Looks that way in my phone (iPhone) when I just tested it and you can hide the locked chat list by swiping the screen up. The list disappears when I unlocked the chat

Olika · 20/11/2023 05:27

I locked a chat to test it during the weekend and 'locked chats' shows on top before my active chats. If you do t have locked chats then it won't show on top.

Eatdust · 20/11/2023 09:11

Looks like I'm going to have to ask him then! I've no idea how to go about it though 😞. I don't want to accuse him of anything but I want to know why he has locked chats!

You're in an impossible situation. You will only be able to find out what's in the locked chat if you ask him, but if you ask him to show you, and he's guilty of something, he might then refuse and instead accuse you of being controlling. Then he can say that the reason he locks his chats is because you are controlling.

Unless he's done it by accident (which is highly unlikely) then the only reason to lock a chat is because there is something in there you wouldn't want anyone else to see.

Hiddenvoice · 20/11/2023 09:41

I had locked chats, if you opened WhatsApp then you wouldn’t see it straight away unless you pulled downwards on the screen.

Eatdust · 20/11/2023 11:34

I am just going to have to suck it up and ask him. It is highly unlikely he would have done it on purpose. If he's got nothing to hide then there shouldn't be a problem. Just need to find a way to bring it up!

It's not very easy to lock chats by accident from what I can see. Not like an accidental swipe

HeavyRainSoon · 20/11/2023 12:46

You can open a locked chat if you know the passcode btw, it will try face ID first and then ask for the phone passcode if unsuccessful (iPhone).

LovelyMumma12 · 20/11/2023 12:47

How do you even lock a chat?

Cocoalover · 20/11/2023 12:57

It's hard to lock a chat on accident. You have to hold down on the person whose messages you want to lock, then select the 3 dots in the top right corner (android) and select lock chat. Then, you need to input your thumbprint. It's highly unlikely an accident

supernoodletrain · 20/11/2023 12:59

@LovelyMumma12 you go into the chat, click on the contact information, scroll down to chat lock, click on the chat lock and turn on the toggle to use FaceID.

LovelyMumma12 · 20/11/2023 13:02

@supernoodletrain @Cocoalover Thank you! I had never even heard of it! That's not been done by accident ....

Can you set a new passcode for it? We know each other's password but I would have thought you'd want to set a different password for it? Haven't tried to access so not sure.

@Eatdust it automatically uses the phones passcode/FaceID. If you fail the FaceID it will ask for the passcode and you can enter that. Just tried it on my phone

HeavyRainSoon · 20/11/2023 13:17

No it uses the phones existing passcode. My husband and I know each others passcodes but I still lock apps such as Whatsapp and Signal in case my phone ever got stolen and was unlocked etc.

Deathbyfluffy · 20/11/2023 13:24

I use locked chats for sensitive work information - but not a problem as my wife knows my passcode etc anyway.
I'd try the phone's passcode - it could be something totally benign.

LaurieStrode · 20/11/2023 13:34

It's unethical to be snooping on an adult's phone, husband or not. That's a dealbreaker for me. We're all entitled to private conversations, online browsing, etc.

If you have concerns, ask him directly.

DRS1970 · 20/11/2023 13:52

Sorry to hear about your worries. I would be very suspicious too, as you can't just accidentally lock a chat, it is a quite deliberate process. Just to flip the situation, could he be hiding preparations for a surprise for you? Hope it is... 🙃

Thank you I might try it. At the same time I feel so awful for snooping in the first place 🫤 especially if it's completely innocent

I agree with that. But that's only where everyone is being honest.

What does a person do when they suspect a partner is cheating? There's nobody who is going to tell them the truth so they must resort to snooping.

Haha I wish but sadly no 😔. He used to be the type to arrange things but not anymore

You can even create a secret passcode and the unlock message will not even appear. The only way is if you go to your AI search bar and enter the passcode. This apps are getting worst by the day and easier for a cheating spouse to get away with it.

So you snoop, and it turns out to be completely innocent. Is your partner supposed to just go " You completely ignored my right to privacy, interfered with a device that wasn't yours, and totally destroyed any possibility of trust from here on in, but that's ok because I should just accept jealousy, paranoia, and controlling behaviours and pretend nothing happened"?

Sorry, any partner who so much as asked to look at my phone would be out of the door before their feet hit the ground, and I have absolutely nothing to hide.

If you suspect I'm cheating, you leave, because you clearly don't trust me anyway.
