We earn equal amounts. I'm putting two through UNI... Ireland so I pay fees, accom and food.
One sorted.
He has one teen who spends eow with him and maintenance of e100 per week.
He will move in with me to my home.
What should he contribute, even as a percentage ?
Household costs approx e 600 week to run outside of kids expenses .
That's mortgage , -utilities and food.

Half. Food etc on top. He’s paying his way of the accommodation so half is fair.

Food is included in 600e

It doesn’t matter about will etc. Don’t put him on your mortgage and if you do get a legal minute of agreement to say it’s in name only. It’s you who has accrued the wealth in that home. When he moves in he is paying half of the accommodation cost. Rent would be higher.

Is separate out food, then go half’s and then alternate food shops. Food spend can go all over the place when people move in

Make sure you have a co-habitation agreement that says he doesn't gain an interest in your house.

He's paying rent and half the bills.

Aquamarine1029 · 13/11/2023 21:10

Obviously half, and I strongly suggest you meet with a solicitor and draw up whatever agreement they advise, which your partner has to sign before he moves in. Don't make the mistake of unwittingly putting your home/assests in jeopardy.

You may think he would never go after a share of your home, but when relationships end, people can get very, very nasty. You want to be absolutely sure you can hand him his walking papers anytime you wish with no consequences.

Half the running cost of the house, you each continue paying for your own children

Get a contract from solicitors drawn up.

Then charge him half of all expenses, plus half the cost of renting a house.
