Am I right?

Hi everyone,

I can't help but feel to blame.

My fiancé and I have been using the sun beds and the last few months or so and please don't come for me as I'm aware of the risks and I am full of regret.

We are coming up to our wedding so we both wanted a glow for the big day :(

He has had his moles checked this morning at the GP and whilst all are fine his doctor was concerned for one. She said she thinks it it is fine but better to be safe than sorry!

He has been referred to a dermatologist - should hear of an appointment in 6-8 weeks she said.

I feel awful and partially to blame as I had started with the sunbeds first :(

Has anyone experienced Melanoma before? His mole wasn't bleeding or itching.

I feel like the worst person in the world right now and I am terrified.

It's unlikely he has developed melanoma after only a couple months of sunbed use. I had several dodgy moles in my 20s (I've never used a sun bed, nor even really lay out in the sun) and had several removed and all fine. It's very likely most people would have a mole that needs checking if they actually had someone look at them. Can he go private just to have them looked at sooner for peace of mind?

That said, now you know and you can give the sun beds a rest. It's autumn now so it's a perfect time to have a more natural skin tone anyway.

He should be okay, a few months of sun beds shouldn't of caused that in. Short space of time.

However knock the sun bed on the head, it's autumn it's not natural to "glow" at this time of the year anyway.

Calm down. Our eldest had a borderline mole and they removed it. Problem solved.

oh and stop with the sunbeds. You’ll regret it when your skin is like leather.

Agree with PP - I’m covered with moles and periodically have to have one checked or removed and nothing further has been required. Medics err on the side of caution. This will almost certainly be nothing. This won’t be the sunbeds - it just happens with moles sometimes.

OrlandointheWilderness · 12/10/2023 11:26

Won't be short term use of sun beds. However, I'd strongly recommend you pack them in. If you'd ever seen end stage skin cancer the urge to brown would go, it's incredibly unpleasant.

AmiablePedant · 12/10/2023 18:41

It's not always (and not even usually!) melanoma. Google basal skin cell carcinoma; not life-threatening and entirely treatable.

Bluela18 · 12/10/2023 22:23

I'm sure he will be OK. I wouldn't worry this is not your fault in any way, we are all at risk of things in our daily life. I'm sure it's fine as the doc said, just double checking
